Hello members and friends of CMGC,
Another very busy week here and a very special one as we celebrated our 21st birthday on July 1st. It is scary to think the place has been open twenty one years and how quick it seems to have gone. For anyone that is not quite familiar with the history of CMGC we started off just as a nine hole golf course and Deer Park then in 1996 Badgers Sett opened followed by Foxes Run in 1999 and then in 2006 our onsite lodges opened. It is strange to think there is a six year gap between Deer and Foxes as maturity levels now are very similar. With most people not being able to tell the difference.
Check out the picture to see just how far the course has matured.
It has been an incredible ride so far but we are just getting started, which leads me onto the next phase our luxury eco lodge development.
Lodge Open Day
It is our first lodge open day this weekend, the luxury show lodge will be open for viewings via appointment. So far interest in the development has been extremely high, we have 11am, 2pm and 4pm available for appointments on Saturday, each appointment will last around one hour.
Sunday will be more of a relaxed day with a simple roll up and view.
The lodge really is soooo nice you will be very surprised just how luxurious it is for the price. Any investors out there should certainly come and have a look as it has great potential as a buy to let.
It was celebration time at Cleobury Mortimer golf club with a special Texas Scramble to mark the 21st anniversary of the club. The members of Cleobury really got behind the competition with a bumper field and the largest entry for a team competition of the year. Early starters Tony Willets, Bob Lucas, John Westley and Paul Liggins thought they had done enough as they were leading all the way up until the afternoon tee times.
The top two came from the afternoon players who also had the worst of the weather with a brutal heavy rain storm that ploughed through. John Brazier, Pat Collins, Andy Galliard and Alex Brazier shot a 56.7 to miss out on top spot by just 0.4 making the situation even worse was the fact that they bogeyed the third of deer park.
The day however belonged to a team of new, old and returning members Ian Dorrell and Rob Pinner teamed up with new member Jim Went and returning after a 11 year golf hiatus Andy Young. Together the team held their nerve with a host of birdies to record 56.3 and take top spot. Captain Ian Dorrell had this to say: 'it was a collective performance with all of us contributing, we also holed putts at the right time, it a great mix we have in this team and I look forward to many for victories together'.
Pictured from left Ian Dorrell, Jim Went, Andy Young, Rob Pinner.
We also held the Titleist par 3 challenge on the second of badgers. It was a no brainer £5 to enter and you got a £5 shop voucher and Titleist golf balls. Hit the green and you got another £5 voucher. 95% of the field entered and only 9 people hit the green. I was trying to tell you all it was an extra club!! Thanks to everyone for their support, Titleist were very happy with the results and are keen for us to do one again in the future… President day maybe!
The Par 3 Champions and runners up
Open Sweepstake
The British Open sweepstake will be available from this Friday, like all sweepstakes here at CMGC it will sell out so get in there quick to avoid missing out. Each pick is £3 each or 2 for £5. We have slightly delayed the start of this sweep to make sure the field is as accurate as possible. Best of luck!
Phil Moore - Head PGA Professional
Another busy week goes by for myself and the clients I am teaching, this week I have some success stories from players of all levels. I have been coaching Paul Liggins for the last couple of weeks and we have been working on his posture and grip. The big change coming from the grip with his previous one being too open. I am now happy to report that the grip change is working and Paul has won back to back roll ups and also part of the team that finished third in the anniversary texas scramble. It goes to show the power of lessons and improvement and the difference it can make!
Another special mention goes to the popular CMGC member John Gaskell, who collared me after one of the best nine hole rounds he had ever had over Deer Park shooting just four over par! John has seen the success from just one lesson.
Finally my colleague Dave in the golf centre came to me as everything he was hitting was going right. We went onto the practice area and within 10 balls hit we had fixed the problem. Dave was simply coming over the top of the ball and not rotating his wrist through impact. Again simply tweaks that can make a massive difference.
Simply put if you would like to play better golf please come and see me philmoorepga@gmail.com
