Hello one and all for more news from Cleobury Mortimer!
What a week it has been with some glorious weather, a bit of rain to add some colour to the course and the most important part, some great golf played. As always, we have plenty to cover and we try and cover all bases from club news, spotlight products and of course the odd joke! This lovely spot pictured here has been the busiest area of the week, the beer garden!
Course Update
This week the lads on the course have done a mid-season MOT on all the machinery to make sure it is all up to scratch and cutting as it should be. Both myself (Dave) and Amy have played a lot this week (2 rounds of 9 counts as a lot when you work in the industry) and I must say hats off to the team, the course is sublime at the moment. The greens are rolling so true, which would have been helped by the light top dressing that was added.
If you fancy a game book here.
Saturday is pretty quiet and Sunday is busy, so be quick to get your desired time!
Golf Pride Grip Day
We were lucky enough to be one of the selected clubs in the country to host a Golf Pride Grip Day. A big thank you to Craig from Golf Pride who came to host the day with Dave.
Craig does around 10 of these a year and we certainly worked him hard, with a packed area from 7.30am until 4pm! What was a big surprise, was the amount of people that had the wrong size grip on their clubs and the amount of people that were playing with worn grips.
CMGC member Ian Orme had standard tour velvets on his, we measured him and fitted a full set of CP2 wraps on his clubs. The next day he shot 40 points and commented how the thicker grip allowed for less grip tension and made it so easy to get through the ball.
If you're unsure on the condition of your grips or you're concerned you may have the wrong size, then come and speak to Dave or Amy and they will advise on the correct grips for you.
The picture of Dave's hands shows what was very common, using a grip that is too thin. Note the three fingers and how close they are to his palm.
Craig had this to say;
"This is by far the busiest grip day I have done, we have done 138 FREE grips on golfers' 7 irons today.
It was great to be at such an engaging club, who were keen to learn the benefits for the grips we do and the difference it can make to their game. I will certainly be back next year for another just like this."
The Anniversary Texas Scramble
The Anniversary Texas Scramble was a huge success with 26 teams playing on a glorious day weather wise. Some fantastic golf was played with the teams in the prizes a mix of Cleobury members and visiting teams. With birdies and cheers heard all over the course, we all knew a low score was needed and it was left to a team that knew the course well.
The founding members team of John Gittins, John Gallagher, Dean Carpenter and John Swithenby have all been members since the club opened. They recorded 12 gross birdies to finish on a very impressive 53.8 nett.

New In, New In, New In - Golf Pride MCC +4 Align Grips!
The much awaited Align Grips have arrived at CMGC, however we only have 25 in stock. These grips are extremely hard to get hold of and we are currently the only Golf Club locally with them in stock!
So why are these Align Grips so good?
- This hybrid grip is the first of its kind!
- They ensure consistent hand placement!
- With a raised ridge, it assists hand alignment to square the clubface and improve your swing consistency.
- When the grip is installed on a shaft, the red ridge rises allowing for consistent hand placement. This enhances the golfer's clubface awareness throughout the swing promoting a square clubface both at address and impact!
We are giving one person the lucky chance to win an Align Grip. All you have to do is buy a FootJoy SciFlex Glove and Quote "Chicken Kebabs" and we will fit the grip for you there and then!
It's that simple, don't wait, there is only 1 available, so be quick everyone! If you fancy one of these they are £15per grip.
The Pro Shop team have all added these to their woods and they feel fantastic. Get ahead of the game with the new align grip!
