Cleobury Mortimer Golf Club Director of Golf
Hello one and all and welcome to another action packed weekly e-newsletter from CMGC.
There is quite a lot to cover this week with great golf, giveaways and all sorts to cover.
We are having a big push on Membership Loyalty for the rest of the year. With over 50 new members joining since January and with the 2017/18 subscriptions now out, we are offering over £800 worth of goodies as a thank you to everyone for making CMGC what it is today.
Any member who has paid their subscription in full by July 9th will be entered in to a draw to win the following prizes.
1st - Electric Motocaddy Trolley
2nd - Motocaddy Pro Series Golf Bag
3rd - Lucky 7 Lesson Package With Dave
4th - 2 dozen Pro V1s
5th - 1 dozen Pro V1s
Please note: a nice set of biceps like Dave's pictured are not in the draw!
We are also finalising a special membership recruitment strategy that rewards existing members. Look out for this as a special mail next week.
Also a quick mention to the Wednesday 9 Hole Roll Ups, we had 48 enter two weeks ago and are consistently getting 40+ most weeks, hopefully can we set a club record and get over 50 playing on one of the Wednesdays over the next few weeks.
Entry is just £2 every Wednesday.
With the seed heads more or less out on the greens, we are pleased to confirm that our Tournament Blades will now be going on to our greens mowers. This means the height of cut will be going down, plus we have changed the speed of the rollers so the greens will start to be even quicker. The course looks beautiful at the moment and we believe these will add the little finishing touches!
Looking to treat your Dad? Here are a couple of great ideas for all budgets.
- 18 hole, full breakfast and sleeve of Titleist golf balls - £25
- 3x45 minute golf lessons and a sleeve of Titleist golf balls - £50
You can purchase the golf package by clicking here.

The vouchers will be sent out via royal mail first class and the golf balls collected when redeeming the round or first lesson.
CMGC Junior Team
There are not many managers in world sport, let alone local sport that can cope with their number 1 player getting sick the night before a big game. However Scott 'Mourinho' Severn didn't let that stop a managerial masterclass.
With his son Jack falling to an overnight sickness bug, he was left to shuffle his pairings for the first game of the season against a very strong Gaudet Luce team.
Tom Rawlings & Tom Judge battled to a great half in the top match whilst Arnold & Ollie Walters kept up their 100% record with a 3&2 win, Jem Jones & Evan Roules played well, but came up just short with a 3&2 loss. With the scores level it all hinged on Rossanna Halls and Abbie Johnson. Both Rosanna and Abbie continued their good form and returned a commanding 5 and 4 victory to give Cleobury a winning start to the season. 2.5 - 1.5.
Well played to all the team, especially to Arnold taking over the captaincy in Jack's absence. If you ever need a managerial tactical decision to be made, Scott is the man to speak to.
The Judge Get's His Own Way
Last weekends roll up saw some great scores posted. Duncan Trow continued his fine form to the season with 40 points on Saturday. Andy 'AJ' Johnson had his best round of the year on the Sunday with 41 points, which was enough to sneak third place. Dave Gordon, who has been close to a good score for a few weeks held it together to shoot 42 points also on the Sunday to take second place.
The weekend however belonged to Paul Judge. Before this week, Paul had gone 23 consecutive competitions without shooting under his handicap! Paul shot an incredible 43 points on Saturday afternoon to take first place over the weekend. Paul also won the midweek roll up with 20 points, to cap a great week for the man from Abberley. Paul had this to say;
"I felt I have been playing well, but just recently I would have 1 or 2 holes which would wreck my score card. My iron play was key today, I was hitting lots of greens with my second shots."
Paul has recently had a couple of lessons with myself (Dave) and I have to say Paul is a very dangerous player off his handicap, on his day he hits it miles and is very tidy around the greens. He has been working hard with myself on a structured pre-shot routine and concentrating on his course management. He is off 17.6 at the moment, but I am sure he will soon be down to 16.
Last Call For Captain's Weekend
Everything is in place for what looks to be a fantastic Captain's Weekend. Friday is all about having a good time with a special par 3 course, BBQ, chipping, putting and roulette competitions running from 5pm. Please feel free to bring as many friends and family up. Plus we have some live music from Aaron Booton.
On Saturday it is the men's and ladies' competitions followed by Sundays 8.30am shot gun start, buffet and mixed competition in the afternoon.
Don't miss out! Call the golf centre on 01299 271112 to get involved.
Pictured here is Bob calling up the last few that have not entered!
Look out next week for details on our U.S. Open specials and a special open tournament celebrating our anniversary.

69 & Counting
This week's golf centre offer is not the bags that are under Dave's eyes, although judging by the size of them you could fit a whole set of clubs and waterproofs in them! It is in fact Titleist golf balls.
Titleist has been the number 1 golf ball at the U.S. Open for a record 69 years and to celebrate this we have some very limited edition golf balls. The balls are marked with 69 and come complete with limited edition packaging. These are priced at £42 a dozen for 2 dozen for £80.
Our advice is buy the double dozen, use one box and save the other as they will be worth more in the future!
