Pros news

Good day from all here in South Shropshire.

I hope everyone is enjoying this fantastic golfing weather we are currently experiencing. I know we always go on about it, but we have all had so many comments from golfers about the condition of the course. It really is in the best condition we have ever seen it, the greens are quick and there is so much definition within the stripes on the tees, fairways and surrounds etc.

If your looking to come and play CMGC book it online by clicking here.

As mentioned each week, our membership recruitment drive has worked out great so far and I am happy to report we have now had over 50 new members join since January 1st, reaching this feat with Keith, Robert, Paul and Chris; welcome all. With the continued investment on the course we are also happy to report that we are bucking a local trend and are announcing a price freeze on our subscriptions. Not forgetting the loyalty of our existing members, we planning something special, so look out for more details on this shortly.

We have also added to our greenkeeping team, Kieran Hall has joined the team full time, with his objective of improving the little touches such as the patio area, first tees, plus the usual greenkeeping duties. Kieran has also been in charge of bunkers since March and I think everyone would agree he has improved them massively. He is also doing them Saturday and Sunday twice a month. Again this is to improve the overall presentation of the course. He did ask me to mention that he often rakes them and then 2 hours later foot prints are in them. So please rake the bunker after you have played a shot.

Coaching news

Love.Golf - Taster Session and Women's Golf Day!

On Thursday 4th May I held a Fantastic Love.Golf Taster session! It was a huge success with all the ladies amazed at the style of coaching and how well they hit the ball nearly instantly without any coaching or advice to begin with, they just had to hit the ball in whichever way felt comfortable! We started the session by just hitting a few golf balls to warm up, and then swiftly moved to putting before heading out onto the golf course. Once on the course, the ladies played in groups of 3 and they were all amazed how relaxed and fun the sessions were, as well as how well they could hit the ball!

To follow on from the Taster session I am running a course of lessons which start on Thursday 25th May at 6pm. The course of lessons will consists of 6 x 90 minute lessons, with the vast majority of the lessons taking place on the course itself. These will be group lessons and will be completely relaxed, as well as being totally different to any golf lessons you have had before!

To join in on the laughter and fun just sign up by clicking here!

On Tuesday 6th June it is Women's Golf Day! I will be hosting a Love.Golf 2 hour group lesson, followed by a Love.Golf Picnic! It will be another great opportunity to try the Love.Golf Programme and get involved in a follow-on project. The cost of this is just £25 per person and will include the picnic afterwards! The session will run from 4-6pm for the golf lesson and then 6-8pm for the picnic & socialising.

Click here to sign up. I hope as many people as possible can support this and get involved!

Under Armour

We have a couple of Under Armour items on clearance and at these prices they won't be here long. These long sleeve jumpers are a light jumper that is also lined for a bit of extra warmth. Just two Large and two XL left, so if you want them speak to Amy quick, they are just £30.

The new range of Under Armour shirts for the summer are also here and this purple beauty is my favourite. The shirt itself is very technical with a moisture wicking cooling system. Basically as your body gets warm, it keeps you cooler.

It is a loose-fitting shirt, so does not hug you and the collar is of the vintage look. It has three buttons with a traditional old school large collar. This allows for a full button traditional look, which is hard to find in a golf shirt these days. We have two of every size in stock priced at £44.99.

The Beef Flat Bill

Andrew 'Beef' Johnson is becoming one of golf's superstars at the moment and Titleist have recognised this by launching the Beef Flat Bill Cap.

Beef is always wearing this hat priced at £20 here at CMGC. It comes in black or white. I see a lot of Beef in myself, we're a similar size, have a beard and love a dirty beef burger! We have just 4 left in stock.

 Adam Millichip Golf Charity Day

What a day Friday was for the annual Adam Millichip Charity Golf Day with over 250 playing! The first tee time was 6.50am and the last 2.30pom. It was a very long day for all involved, but a great day was had by all. At the moment, the money is still being added up, but fingers crossed it is another bumper year. It is scary to think that was the 8th year, it only seems like yesterday when the first one was being organised!

For those who did not make it this year, click here to check out this fantastic video that was produced.

Anyone who would like to be added to the invite list for next year, please contact me here and I can pass it onto the charity trustees.

A big thank you to Mark Fish, Mark Benbow and Stuart Millichip for all their organising and efforts on hosting such a great day.

Talking of charity days we are very lucky to have such supportive members, below are some other big days we have lined up with members involved. Again if you would like to enter any of these please get in touch.

9th June - RSPCA - Organised by club member Guy Taylor and his wife Bev
6th July - Clic Sargent - Organised by Richard Peters.
7th July - Rainbow Cancer - Organised by John Gaskel, his wife Ange, Gary Hingley and Dave Moore
15th September - Community Transport - Organised by Paul Mitchell
22nd September - Teenage Cancer Trust - Organised by Mark Greenfield

We have quite a reputation for hosting these kind of days, if your looking for something like this or even a more corporate day, please contact myself (Dave) and I will be happy to help.

Scratch Report

The CMGC Scratch Team kept up their good form with a second straight home against Gaudet Luce Golf Club. On a sunny, but breezy day the team found themselves in a tough battle, with the majority of games pretty even through the first 9 holes.

Having secured a point before we teed off, with Gaudet unfortunately having a player pull out last minute, we knew if we could get some points on the board early then it would take the pressure off the likes of Andy Young and Ross Moorcroft, who were playing at 6 and 7.

Jack Severn birdied the last hole to secure a half in the opening match, with Josh Rowbotham holding his nerve to par the last and secure a 1 up win in his match. With the first five matches in the clubhouse, the score was tied at 2 ½ - 2 ½. The next game coming down the 18th involved Charlie Edwards; Charlie had gone 1 up on the 17th, before a regulation par on the last helped him to a 2 up win, which kept up his 100% record this year.

Needing just one more point for victory the atmosphere was still pretty tense with no one knowing how either Andy or Ross were getting on. Andy stepped up, as he always does in these matches, with birdies on 16 and 17 to take his game 2 & 1 and clinch victory for the team. Ross, who was two down with four to play, turned the screw and held a 15 footer on the last to take his game 1 up and give the team an overall 5 ½ - 2 ½ victory.

On Saturday 13th May we make the trip over to Oxley Park Golf Club looking to build on our recent success.

Have a great week, the CMGC team.
