Pros news

Hello and welcome once again to the latest news from CMGC.

With so much to report this week there is only one place to start… The Masters. What a weekend it was for two of Europe's heavyweights, although Justin Rose is English we were all cheering Sergio on. He has done his time and fully deserved the win.

Congratulations to the Masters Sweep winners Adam Cook, Ian Dorrell, Mark Southall, Karl Tyers and Stuart Humphries, who picked up a prize for the dead last player! Your vouchers to spend at the CMGC shop are ready for collection.

Don't forget next Wednesday, 19th April is our demo day, we have 1 time left at 19:00, if you would like to book this last spot please click here.

The course has been in fantastic condition for a few weeks now, the greens have never been so fast for this time of year and it has caught you all out. We have seen steady players having 3, 4 and even 5 putts on single greens. Greenkeeper Cameron was out earlier in the week and has the greens stimping at 10.2. It is the first medal of the year on Sunday so get your names down.

Check out the patio and course, this was taken Wednesday. Oh also, we are over the 30 mark for Taster Members!

Investing In The Future Of Your Golf Club

As we enter our 25th Year under the same ownership and management, CMGC continues to invest in the very best in Greenkeeping equipment.

We are about to take delivery of the very latest Jacobsen Fairway mower, Rough mower and Iseki tractor; a total investment of just under £100,000.

With 200acres to maintain we have always believed in investing in the very best equipment to ensure our merry band of greenkeepers can keep the course in the top condition our golfers have come to expect, but also to cover the ground as quickly as possible to concentrate on other important tasks such as top dressing and aeration etc.

Moving into the clubhouse, we are also looking at offering something extra and have started the ball rolling with the addition of a high grade pool table, this is due for delivery on Friday 21st April.

Increase Your Swing Speed

Are you looking to increase your swing speed and hit the ball further?

I have some golf balls that will most certainly help you with this, they are priced at just £20 a dozen. Pop into the golf centre to snap them up, just 12 dozen of each option are available, the AD333 or DT TruSoft.

Masters Clothing

Sticking to The Masters theme, we have the Under Armour collection that players like Speith and Fitzpatrick were wearing. The shirts vary from £30 - £50 and of course when you buy one, you can get another with a nice discount…. The more you buy the more you save!

Coaching news

Amy Becomes A Level 2 Inclusive Coach

Last week I (Amy) went on an inclusive coaching course. I had already done by Level 1 back in December, but this course on Thursday was to boost me to a Level 2 coach.

The Level 2 Inclusive Coaching Course was all about ways in which we can teach golfers that have a disability. This involved learning ways in which we adapt golf to teach the Blind, Deaf, Amputees and any individual on the Autism spectrum.

Throughout the day we chatted about ways in which golf can be accessible for them and it was inspiring to hear so many stories. It's incredible what golf can do for someone and how much it can give them back a life that they may have felt they have lost.

I am looking forward to getting involved with some local community groups to put what I have learnt into practise.

Love.Golf Taster

As I (Amy) mentioned in the newsletter a few weeks ago, I have joined the Love.Golf team of coaches and would be holding some ladies group coaching. To allow ladies to experience what the Love.Golf lessons will be like, I am holding a Taster Session on Thursday 4th May at 5:30pm. The session will last an hour and 30 minutes.

To book your place, please click the link and book onto the taster session. https://love.golf/cleobury-mortimer-golf-club/

If you know any ladies that would be interested or if you would like to get your wives, daughters or granddaughters involved please sign up through the link!

Competition news

Men's Stableford

It was a beautiful day on Saturday for our Men's Stableford Competition. The sun was shining and the temperature was finally above 10 degrees.

However, with near perfect conditions, the course was playing tough with some tricky pin positions and the greens rolling extremely quick.

With over 40 competing, early bird John Westley shot 35 points but was left feeling disappointed with a couple of three points. Matt Fairman continued playing some steady golf with 34 points, as did Roger Evans also shooting 34 points.

Jack Severn and Louie Edwards also shot 35 points in the afternoon but it was to be John Westley's day winning the competition on count-back.

Congratulations John.

John has a great practice routine and is always seen chipping and putting before he goes out for a game. That made all the difference on the fast greens!

Final Standings
1st Place - John Westley - 35 pts (Countback)
2nd Place - Jack Severn - 35 pts (Countback)
3rd Place - Louie Edwards - 35 pts

Easter Open 2017

What a day it was for the 2017 Easter Open at Cleobury Mortimer. 29 teams from across the county played the Texas Scramble format in glorious sunshine. The course was in tip top condition, with the greenkeepers doing a great job getting the greens quick. Everyone had a great day and here are the results.

Don't forget we do have more over the summer, dates can be found here: http://www.cleoburygolfclub.co.uk/events/category/open-golf-events/

Handicap League

The handicap league team hosted fellow competitors Bransford in their first league match of the season. The morning started with a Full English breakfast followed by a team photograph. All team members wearing the new corporate logoed Team Shirts (Available from the Pro Shop for £24).

Unfortunately the team lost 5 - 1, but it was closer than the result indicates. Two of the matches were lost on the 18th and the 3rd Match was lost on the 17th. The only winning pair was the partnership of Steve Lau and Andy Johnson.

Big thank you to Andy who stepped in at the last minute due to illness.
