Modernising Golf's Rules
Last week the R&A proposed some key changes to the Rules of Golf from 2019. Their Rules Modernisation initiative has been underway for a few years now and this is the next stage in that process. The aim is to not only make the Rules easier to understand, but also to address some of the game's current problems, such as speed of play, and ensure they fit the needs of today's game.
Please spare a couple of minutes to complete our survey, which gives you the chance to have your say on the proposed changes.
We've picked out some of the most significant Rules changes for you to digest in this survey, before giving you the chance to say whether you agree or disagree with each of them. It'll be great to know your thoughts.
Have your say here.
Hello and welcome once again to the latest update from us all here at CMGC. It has been a fun week with us nice and busy here at the club, let's hope this continues.
With the increase in temperatures the greens are now getting cut twice a week and rolled. The surface is second to none as pictured below. Remember we are on these greens all year around.
Update From Dave
A big thank you to everyone for the continued support in the studio. The take up has been fantastic and I am still doing on average 15 hours a week coaching. The studio has brought people to the club from all over the county. Many of which had not been to the club before, which is fantastic as it has led to Sunday Lunch business and members and much more.
Wolves goal keeper Harry Burgoyne came and had 18 holes and a go in the studio and now holds the new record for longest drive….. 309 to beat!
I have been very lucky that everyone who has been in the studio has enjoyed it. If you fancy a lesson in there please get in touch. 3x45 minutes sessions are just £50.
Under Armour Clothing
As promised last week the 10 boxes of Under Armour have been opened and now on display. We have over 200 items in the shop with all sizes from small - XXL available. As always, we offer multi buy discounts, the more you buy the more you save.
If you're after some new UA gear pop to the golf centre and we will be happy to help. Here is some information on a couple of the products we have…
Threadborne - £50
- Threadborne Microthread technology in the fabric dries faster, won't cling to you, won't chafe & stretches without absorbing sweat
- 4-way stretch fabrication allows greater mobility in any direction
- Moisture Transport System wicks sweat & dries fast
This is part of the premium collection and one of the most technical golf shirts on the market.
The lads wanted to thank everyone for their patience with the course updates being made on a daily basis. If you have played Badgers Sett this last week you will notice the pond on the left of the 4th has been cleared. We will then open the fairway up just past the bunker to bring this back into play once again.
They have also cleared the hedge that runs along the 3rd. This has extended the holes rough by an extra 2 yards!
Remember if your ball falls into one of these piles it is free relief.
3 Club Winner
After a week of rain the golfers of CMGC struck it lucky on Saturday with blue sky and dry conditions for the annual 3 club competition. This fun competition always throws up much discussion with various decisions on club selections.
Defending champion Nigel Williams started the ball rolling with 30 points. John Westley then took the lead with 33 points. Conditions in the afternoon must have been much better with the top two coming from the last two groups.
Lewis Hodges shot 35 points to sit at the top of the leader board before Gordon Moraity came home with 37 points to snatch the trophy. Gordon went with an aggressive play selecting driver, 8 iron and putter.
Gordon had this to say
"Firstly I have 11 golf clubs for sale if anyone would like them! It is my best round in a few weeks and I would like to thank my playing partner Bryan Colley for sticking with me for the full 18 holes."
This Saturday we have a pairs betterball competition, best of luck to everyone.
Captains Drive In & Charities - Captain Bob's Corner
Now that spring is nearly upon us and hopefully the weather should be getting better our thoughts turn to the season ahead. Most of you will know that my chosen charity for the year is the Midlands Air Ambulance; this is also the charity of choice for Seniors Captain Trevor Warman.
This charity is very close to home as one of our senior members Dave Hadley last year had to be airlifted to hospital, and there is little doubt that the speed in which he arrived at hospital saved his life.
This was not the first time we had used the Air Ambulance service at the Golf Club and sorry to say it probably will not be the last. Throughout the year, a number of raffles will take place, the proceeds of which will go the Charity.
Could I please appeal to your very generous natures and ask if it's possible to be kind enough to donate a raffle prize for this very worthy cause.
All prizes can be dropped off in the pro shop.
Thanking you all in anticipation - Bob Lucas
Don't forget Captain Bob needs you all for the Captains' Drive In on Sunday, 19 March. The new Captains' Drive In is at 8.15am with the competition starting at 8.30am.
Entry fee is just £3.00 per person which includes coffee and a bacon bap during your round.
Please sign in at the golf shop.
