Pros news

Greeting golfers and welcome once again to the weekly newsletter,

Although we have had some varied weather throughout this week it has been great to see so many golfers playing this last week and getting back in to the groove of things as we near ever closer to the start of the season.

This picture was taken on Deer Park lets hope hurricane Doris does not undo our drying out spell.

This last week we have also welcomed Barbara, Stan, Grant, Steve and the Bows to CMGC and hope that you all enjoy your membership at Cleobury and get plenty of golf in.

Get Your Golf MOT

A big thank you to everyone who has taken out the club MOT we launched last week, it's always interesting to check the loft and lies of clubs to see if they have moved much and to whether there is a consistent gapping between the clubs.

As well as checking/ adjusting loft and lies we have been busy re- gripping several clubs and would urge anyone who hasn't had their clubs re-gripped over the last couple of years to come and look at our selection of grips.

Grips are made of materials that age and wear over time. Heat, dirt and oils from your hands all age your grips and cause the natural degradation of the grip. The traction that a fresh grip provides lets you hold the club lightly without the subconscious fear of losing the club during your swing.

As a rule of thumb, you should re-grip once every year or every 40 rounds, regardless of how often you play so if it has been a couple of years then do pop in and see us.

If you want to see what the MOT report looks like click here.

Always Learning

As part of our continued development plan towards offering the best service it was great to attend the annual Foremost spring work shop. It was an intense day of learning and networking with other likeminded golf professionals.

The most encouraging item of discussion was the new and improved click and collect website that will be launching shortly. The focus will be on easier navigation, ease of purchasing and lowest pricing.

We all came away with several ideas that we hope to implement over the coming months… watch this space.

Mothering Sunday - Sunday, 26 March

Leave the washing up behind and treat Mum to a special meal this Mother's Day at Cleobury Mortimer Golf Club. Sally and George have put together a lovely menu for this special day so why not take the pressure off cooking and treat those special Mum's to a freshly cooked meal.

Click Here to see the menu.

If you would like to book a table please speak to a member of the catering team or phone 01299271112.

Lodge Re-Vamp

Our lodge refurbishment is in full flow with J & P painters and decorators doing a fine job. The plan is to get two lodges full refurbished and the remaining two in April. With such a busy year ahead for them we want to make them as conformable as possible to all of you staying in them.

If you are looking for a golf weekend or somewhere to stay in the area these are an excellent choice. Visit our website for more information.

Competition news

Double Roll

There was a great turn out for last weekend's Double Roll with some fantastic performances by a number of players. Simon Eades and Ian Juckes both shot well under their handicaps on the Sunday but it was the Saturday players who really took advantage of the good weather and soft greens.

Greg Shorter who has been working hard on his game with a bit of practice during the week shot a fantastic 5 over par, 44 points playing off 13. Greg took top spot with a host of players finishing just behind him including Dave Booton, Bryan Colley, John Westley and Steve Lau.

Dave Pain had this to say, "It's no surprise to see Greg playing well as you see him working hard on his game throughout the week, on a personal note it was great to see Simon Eades, Ian Juckes, Adam Cook and Dean Rogers all shooting under their handicap after working with myself over the last few months indoors and outdoors on the golf swing".

This weekend is another busy competition with the Texas AM taking place on Saturday, I think with the form everyone is in at the moment it could be about the 90 point mark to take top spot.

New Scorecard Holders Arrive

These are a great little accessory for whenever you are playing in a competition as it helps prevent the scorecards from getting worn or ripped and even has a little holder for the pencil that you can normally never find in your pocket!

We have a range of colours and they are priced at just £10.00.

Winter Training from Keith Gardner

Something new from South Africa. Can you spot ball on the last hole of the Dimension Data competition at Fancourt last weekend?

Enlarge the photo and look on the top of the wall in line with the flag. Incredibly the pro concerned, Mark Williams, who was in contention, elected to play it but knocked it in the water for a double bogey.

I managed to follow, the winner, Paul Lawrie who won it with a birdie on the last after a majestic 250yard three wood over water to the green. Managed to have a quick chat with him after and he was a really nice fella. Got to talk to him afterwards.

Lee Westwood was also playing so it was nice to also watch him play a few holes.

GolfSixes

Aiming for a younger demographic

The European Tour have introduced some innovative ideas for the season ahead. The World Super 6 combined 54 holes of stroke play with a final-day knockout, whilst GolfSixes, which takes place later in the year, sees two-man teams battle it out over six holes in a group stage, before progressing to a final-day knockout.

Will this be good for the game? Have your say here
