Hello members and friends of CMGC, what a funny old week it has been here at CMGC, sunshine one minute followed by thunder storms the next. The first picture was taken at 5pm in the Wednesday night roll up and the one below was taken at 7am on the Thursday. So strange how the weather can go from floods to gorgeous sunshine.
Fingers crossed the sunshine continues and we can all keep playing some golf with the sun on our backs!
We have an exciting few weeks lined up here at Cleobury with FREE lesson clinics, competitions, the world cup, US Open, sweeps and the show lodge of the Cleobury Country Lodges site complete.
Head Coach Phil Moore
One of the most common faults I find with my lessons is their posture, many don't realise what their posture is like until they actually see it. Once you get in the grove of doing something it may not be correct however it feels good and you continue with it. This is where video analysis and photography are critical for my lessons. When we work on the posture I will send you pictures so you know what you are currently doing and what needs to be changed. These are great to print off and take with you when you practice so you know you are doing it correctly.
Improve Your Posture for better ball striking
Many club golfers that I watch that have inconsistent ball striking also have poor posture at set up. Mean while when you watch professionals on the European and PGA Tours, every posture is the same and they are all great ball strikers. The posture, when done right, is the foundation for a repeatable swing and more consistent ball striking.
When the posture is angled properly from your hips, and not your waist or upper back, it allows you to turn properly on the backswing and swing the club up and down on a better plane. If you bend from your waist or upper back your back will become more rounded and it's near impossible to make contact with the golf ball with any great consistency.
A perfect drill for this is one in which you get the club up in front of you, the butt of the club should touch your belt buckle while the bottom of the shaft should touch the top of your head. Then you will just bend over using your hips until you start to feel a small stretch in your hamstrings. Once you get this feeling you then just bend your knees a little until they are over the balls of your feet and this is how you stand to the ball.
With this new posture you will not only look like a golf pro, but you'll start hitting it like one too!

Do you know any juniors looking to start playing golf?
I have now restarted the Saturday morning junior lessons from 11am until 12 noon for just £5 per child. It is open for total beginners from aged 5 onwards, my plan is to start with a roll up lesson each week on specific parts of the game e.g. long game, short game etc. Once I have a set of regulars I will then put them onto the golf foundation junior golf passport. The Junior Golf Passport is the national structured learning programme for children aged 6-12 years, endorsed by the PGA.
The programme has 3 key levels: START, LEARN and PLAY.
The START level is all about fun and an elementary introduction to golf.
The LEARN level is a move towards technical instruction through games based learning, always with the emphasis on fun.
The PLAY level teaches the child to apply their learning to the golf course, preparing them for potential club membership and competition.
If you have any additional questions please get in touch otherwise I hope to see some new youngster here at CMGC on Saturdays.

Roy Houghton memorial medal. - 31/5/14
After a wet week it was great to see some sunshine beaming down on CMGC for the weekend. Saturday saw the members contest the Roy Houghton memorial medal the second trophy competition of the year. The greens staff at CMGC work miracles to get the course is such great condition highlighted by some stunning scores posted. Roger Evans thought he had done enough to take home the trophy with a stunning nett 63. This was good enough to take first place in division 2 and see his handicap tumble from 17 to 15.
The day however belonged to Adam Winnel how quite simply had a day to remember. One of those rounds of golf when everything clicks into place and you have the round of your life. Playing off a handicap of 10 Adam shot a one under par gross 69 to post an unbelievable nett 59 and take home his first trophy since joining CMGC 18 months ago.
Adam added 'it may never happen again, it was just one of those days, my best ever round of golf'. Adam has now since had his handicap cut to 7.
Well played and see you at presentation evening!
Division 1
Adam Winnel - nett 59
