As another week passes by another CMGC newsletter will enter your inbox! And here we are, hello again everyone... 

After a couple of hard frosts and some snow, even if it was just a light covering, the course is holding up fantastic and the greens are rolling well. It's been great to see so many of you going out in the cold weather and making the most of winter golf! I'm happy just sitting cosy in my 5 layers in the shop, although I have ventured out and played 18 holes this week!



 

What a weekend we had with some incredible scores! Last weekend was another double roll up contested over both Saturday and Sunday! But Sunday was definitely the day for some excellent scoring! But I'll come to that shortly....

Saturday saw some steady golf from: Ashley Cook with 36 points, Rob Pinner with 37 points and Bryan Colley with 38 points, which considering it is winter and the conditions are tough you'd think that would be the point's tally that would top the leaderboard! However much like last weekend, Sunday is definitely the day to win on! With Dave Booton scoring an awesome 41 points but just missed out on first place to Dave Mendham who secured top spot with a solid 42 points! It must be a Dave thing this weekend!

Dave Mendham had this to say:  

"I have just brought a new wedge and it made all the difference today! My consistency was awesome! I'm looking forward to the rest of the season! " 

Final Standings: 
1st Place: Dave Mendham - 42 points 
2nd Place: Dave Booton - 41 points 
3rd Place: Bryan Colley - 38 points

 

This weekend's Men's competition is a Texas Scramble on Saturday. The tee sheet is filling up nicely but there are still plenty of tee times available for anyone wanting to play! 

The Texas scramble is also open to Guests; so any members looking for an extra player feel free to invite a friend along. 

Also just to make everyone aware we have moved the competition signup sheets from the Pro Shop to the Men's Changing Rooms for a trial period, so if you can't find them in the shop head to the changing rooms to sign up for the next set of upcoming competitions.

Men's and Mixed Knockouts: 

As the beginning of the season approaches its time to get your names entered into the Men's Singles, Doubles and Scratch Knockouts as well as the Mixed Knockout. 

The entry forms for the knockouts can be found in the Pro Shop. The cost for the scratch and singles knockout is £5 per person and the doubles and mixed knockouts is £10 per pair. 

If you are having trouble finding a partner and you are wishing to enter the mixed or doubles knockout let one of us in the shop know and we can help you find someone! 

The closing date for the Men's Knockouts is Sunday 26th March and the closing date for the Mixed Knockout is Sunday 16th April!

 

Seniors Coffee Mornings are a hit.... 

Once the fog lifts it definitely leaves a beautiful day, as it did on Wednesday for this week's Senior Coffee Morning! I (Amy) am currently running a 6 week Seniors Coffee Morning course which so far has been a huge success. Each session includes a 1 hour group lesson covering a different area of the game each week followed by a Cup of coffee and a piece of homemade cake which is made by me or my Mum! I've been told its worth going just for the cake! 

This week the session was on chipping and the results were fantastic, everyone was finding a club they felt confident with and consequently hit some great chip shots! 

So far we have covered: Putting and Chipping. However there are still four weeks left covering: Bunker Play, Pitching, Long Game and Course Management. 

The cost of each session is £6 per person. 

If any of the seniors are interested in attending a session, please sign up in the mens changing rooms or come and have a chat!

Winter Tips: 


Amy: I know it's a tedious job but Clean your golf clubs after nearly every round of golf. 

So often golfers play with mud buried in the groves of their clubs affecting the contact you make with the ball. 

Having clean clubs will ensure a cleaner contact! 


Tom: Often in golf the conditions aren't perfect, but you must keep a perfect mindset, stay positive over every shot and think about what you can and can't do. 

Remember it is still WINTER so use this time wisely to get ready for the SUMMER...
