Cleobury Mortimer Golf Club Director of Golf
Happy New Year everyone and welcome to the first newsletter of 2017.
I trust you all had a great Christmas and New Year? We all had a great one here at Cleobury drinking too much and eating too much and now its time to diet and play golf!
We were closed just two days (Christmas Day and New Years Day) and it was great to see so many of you between those two dates enjoying what was the driest Chirstmas period in years.
You'll find two pictures attached. One of the lads from the Station Inn before tee off and the second one of how the course was looking over the festive period.
Let's hope 2017 is just like 2016, full of great fun.
Thank you to everyone who took part in the annual Christmas Sweep. Everyone who entered would have been hoping to win the Under Armour winter package so if you would like to find out who won please watch our short video here.
A big thank you to our special guest for doing the draw and a big thank you to the club for my all expenses paid trip to Chambers Bay.
As always we like to have a bit of fun with our videos which we hope you enjoy and if anyone would like to feature in any of our future videos please get in touch.

Amy's Year Review 2016
2016 has been a big year for me. First of all I turned 21. In April I started offering coaching to all abilities and made some connections with local schools to deliver Tri Golf in those schools. In July I got the news I had passed my First year of my PGA Foundation Degree and was progressing onto a Second Year which I'm now nearly halfway through too...
To finish of 2016 I also passed my Level 1 Inclusive coaching course.
I already have a range of coaching arranged for 2017, which includes Coffee mornings, Tri Golf sessions and inclusive coaching as well as one to one lessons. I am also booked on to take my Level 2 coaching course and my Level 2 Inclusive coaching course in the beginning of the year. Fingers crossed Year 2 of Foundation Degree will be passed and I will start Year 3 studies in October.
Paul a cut above the rest
Paul Harrison claimed his first win as a member of Cleobury just in time for Christmas. Paul hit 40 points to finish one point clear of Roger Evans on 39 points. Paul joined the club less than a year ago after re-locating from Surrey.
Dave Pain added "Paul has always had a first class short game and has been working with myself over the season on the rest of his game. It is great to see him getting his first victory as a member of the club and I am sure it will be the first of many".
Paul works out of Ben's Barbers in Cleobury Mortimer. Tom, Matt and I all go to Paul for our haircuts. If you are in need of a barber Paul is the man!
Placement Key for John
With the weather so mild and the course bone dry the members of CMGC were in for a shock when they checked in on the New Year's Eve Stableford.
It was back to just normal winter rules, so hitting fairways was key. The last day of 2016 saw John Westley finish the year in style with a one point victory in the Men's December Stableford.
Two blobs on the front wouldn't prevent John, playing off 12, from taking top spot with a stunning 22 point haul on the back nine.
Pipped at the post with 38 points was Matt Fairman, who after some lessons with Dave has found some form and consistency with a causal 19 points on both the front and back nine. Taking third spot was Lewis Hodges with 36 points, who after stuttering on the 7th and 8th held it together on the back nine recording an impressive 21 points.
The 2017 club diaries are now available to collect from the golf centre.
These feature all the competitions for 2017.
This means you can safely book your family holiday around the majors such as club championships, captains weekend etc.
Anyone who cannot get to the club to collect, we will be posting them week commencing January 16th.

As we head into 2017, we take a look back at the ten best shots of 2016 courtesy of the European Tour. Which one is your favourite?
Have a great golfing week and we hope to see you at CMGC very soon.
