Cleobury Mortimer Golf Club Director of Golf
So it has finally happened…. The realisation that it is just over one month until Christmas! Where on earth has this year gone? We all love a bit of Christmas cheer here at CMGC and our annual Christmas video will be shot very soon. With that in mind Black Friday is fast approaching. We will be running a sale this Black Friday, Saturday and Sunday. You'll find out more below.
The course once again has held up great. Hopefully some cold and windy days will follow the rain to dry it out. Buggies are currently off but the rest of the course is open as usual.
The end of season prize giving was once again a fantastically well subscribed event with all the prize winners out in force. This special event also had the added touch of a stableford competition using a two tee start to ensure everyone got in at the same time.
Adam Cook once again showed his class with 40 points to take third spot. Gary Hingley fresh with a new Scotty Cameron putter had 40 points, a superior back nine provided him with a second place finish. The day however belonged to club Vice Captain Stuart Humphries who dropped just one shot all round on his way to 42 points.
Stuart added 'I have had a quiet year on the golf course so it is nice to finish the year with an individual win'.
Director of golf Dave Pain also added 'It was great to see Stuart get the win today, he has had a lot of good scores going over the year but never quite got over the finish line. I am sure this could be the first of many over the winter months'.
Once everyone weas fed and watered the trophies were handed out by club captain Bob Lucas. Each winner received their trophy and a club tumbler. It was great to see so many prize winners in attendance with a fantastic atmosphere in the clubhouse. The: food, tumblers and trophy engraving was all covered by the club committee from entry fees over the year.
A big thank you to all that supported the competitions this summer season…. Roll on next year.
Nearest the pin winners - Duncan Trow and Stuart Humphries.
1st - Stuart Humphries

John and Ange cap of a great year
Former Cleobury Mortimer Club Captain John Gaskell and wife Angela, hosted their cheque presentation on Saturday 19th November, from totals raised during the year through their Rainbow Cancer Care Foundation of £13,200. Donations were made to: Acorns Childrens Hospice of £3500, Cancer Research UK of £3500, Macmillan of £3500. The Midland Air Ambulance and Kidderminster Prostate Cancer Group both received a cheque for £850. The UK Sepsis Trust and Edwards Trust both received cheques for £500.
Funds were raised this year by a: Sponsored Diet by our kitchen manager George, a company raffle, a cheque was donated by Paul Liggins, Angela's 60th birthday donations in lieu of presents, three charity golf days with the two held at Cleobury Mortimer Golf Club raising a massive £10,500 and finally Angela's popular cake sales.
John and Angela started their fundraising back in 2009 after the passing of Angela's mum from cancer. They have worked tirelessly since and to date, the couple have raised almost £50,000.
Pictured are the representatives from the various charities, gratefully accepting the donation cheques from John and Angela.
Wednesday Roll Up
New Club Captain Bob Lucas has implemented his first idea!
The Wednesday night roll ups obviously are no more over the winter due to the dark nights. However starting this Wednesday the roll ups will now start at 12 noon. This is the ideal opportunity for anyone wishing to continue playing over the winter months. As always it will be very sociable and a bit of fun. Just simply roll up from 12 and enjoy.
Always looking for improvements..
This week the greenkeepers have had a new toy to play with. This deep aeration has tines that go seven inches into the turf. A huge blast of compressed air is then shot in through the tine to open up deep compaction. You may have noticed how firm the greens are despite the wet weather. Less compaction allows the water to naturally flow below the surface into the ground.
I think we would all agree the work that the lads have done this year is certainly working.
The aeration tine machine will be used over all 27 holes in the coming weeks.
The following Black Friday deals will be running from 8am on Friday 25th November until 5.30pm on Sunday 27th of November.
