Hello and welcome once again to the latest updates and goings on of everyone here at CMGC!

We are now staring at November and the clocks changing but it is all good when the weather is like it is! So far, and I will say it quietly we have had very little rain and the course is looking great. Lets hope this continues.

I took this Monday on a bone dry Deer Park.

Fancy a game this Saturday….. I have 2 of these available for Saturday only.

18 holes and a buggy £50 for 2 players or £95 for 4 players.

Please call us on 01299 271112 and quote the newsletter offer. First come first serve.

Want to see what condition the course is like? Click the picture of Tom above or click here.

Don't forget this weekend is a Texas AM which is open to visitors and we already have 15 teams down for it. It is great to see such high numbers in the competitions as we approach November.

If anyone is looking for a game a team of 3 need one more at 8.10am!

The Rise of The Yellow Ball

The leaves are falling off the trees, making visibility tough if you're off the fairway. Although the greenkeepers are out blowing and picking them up it is a bit of a never ending task. With that in mind it is time to switch to a yellow ball for the next couple of weeks so you can see them with ease.

As the picture shows I was looking for ages for the white ball yet found the yellow one straight away!

To help we have a couple of great deals going

Titleist DT Solo - 1 dozen £18 - 2 dozen £28
Srixon AD333 - 1 dozen £20 - 2 dozen £30

These are both fantastic balls heading into the winter they offer great feel around the greens but are also compressed enough to give a nice ball flight no matter the temperature.

Plus they have the CMGC logo on them.

Fancy A Motocaddy Deal?

Motocaddy have once again swooped in with a great deal, buy any of these trolleys and you can get a half price bag

All prices listed are with an 18 hole lithium battery. As we head into the winter, trolleys are a vital ingredient. You need plenty of storage space for waterproofs and all the goodies you take around.

Competition news

With the leaves just starting to fall here at Cleobury the members still took to the course to battle it out in the double roll up over Saturday and Sunday. With the temperature dropping and the ball not travelling as far you would think a good score might be few and far between. However that was certainly not the case in this competition.

Steady scorer John Westley took the lead early on Saturday with 38 points to keep up his good form and was leading most of the day until afternoon starter Rich Smith dazzled his way round the course shooting a nice cool 40 points to set the bench mark for the Sunday competitors.

In what felt a bitterly cold day Sunday, players were getting the winter mits and bobble hats out ready for some hot golf. Tom Neath was cruising until his last hole where an unlikely blob on the last saw him finish with 38 points, with Tom leaving the door open, playing partner Ade Powell stepped in and finished with 39 points even after a blob on the first. The day and weekend however belonged to Mark Southall who has had a quiet season this year but found some form to shoot a fantastic 42 points.

Mark had this to say "I putted absolutely great, I sank nearly every putt and that made the difference out there!"

Well played Mark Final standings:

Mark Southall - 42 points
Rich Smith - 40 points
Ade Powell - 39 points

Interesting Fact...

As you were all probably aware the greens were verti-drained during some course maintenance last week, which benefits the greens in the long term, but short term you can often hear players cursing their luck on the greens. However, on both Saturday and Sunday 40% of the field played within their buffer zone as opposed to only 32% in the roll up on Saturday 15th Oct, 36% on Sunday 16th Oct and 24% on Sunday 9th October in the Stableford.

Cleobury Remain Unbeaten In Friendlies

Friday 21st October saw Team Cleobury take on the Worcester Golf Club in the latest Mens Friendly Competition. Problem is, what do you do when a match has to be played on a Friday, when one has to be at work? Go sick, inform the boss you are going on a conference, say you have been selected for jury service, tell the management that I am having a "procedure" done, locked the keys in the car or garage? In the end nothing sounded plausible so I accepted I would have to sit this one out. However, I sort of worked from home, except I worked from the conservatory at Cleobury, which is where I sat and watched as twelve guys from Cleobury went out and played the twelve guys from The Worcester.

I have to tell you though, it wasn't much fun working from the conservatory, seeing the beautiful weather and just longing to be out there playing. What was great though was to see all the guys coming back in with smiles on their faces having just had some great rounds of golf. There then followed a delicious meal prepared by the great staff in the kitchen, which was soon despatched.

I suppose I should not be surprised that everyone enjoyed themselves. The clue is in the name; men's "Friendly" Competition so after a day like that, does the score matter? To quote a certain presidential candidate from across the pond, no matter what the score, I would have been happy to accept any result; provided Cleobury won. And…we did 4 - 2. Well done team Cleobury.

If anyone is interested in playing in future friendly competitions, please let me know.

Go on, give it a try.

They are really enjoyable.
