Greetings from Cleobury Mortimer
Cleobury Mortimer Golf Club - Director of Golf

Hello members and friends of CMGC! What a great week we have had the sun has been shining the temperatures nice and high and the BBQ finally being fired up. Personally it is a nice relief having some proper sun to top up my tan the sun beds were starting to cost me a small fortune! Myself, Phil and Tom have been out playing a lot this week (even Matt is talking about playing again) and we all agreed how good the course is, loads of sand in the bunkers, lush fairways, thick but fair ruff, true greens and tight surrounds make it a real pleasure to be out playing… It conditions like this that make you realise why we love golf and are members of a great golf club like CMGC.

A Couple of snaps taken last week!

Lodge Update

The lodge is due for delivery Tuesday! Once it is all in and installed we will be releasing dates for open days etc….. Here is food for thought for any potential buyers/ investors some of the most googled search terms when looking for lodges

1- Lodges on golf course
2- Lodges with fishing
3- Pet friendly lodges
4- Lodges with Jacuzzi

All of these are covered in our lodges (jacuzzis are optional extras) certainly potential to make a healthy return!

Men's Texas Scramble

With the sun shining it was great to see the competition nice and busy for the Captains May Texas scramble. Shorts and t-shirts were out on display and some wonderful golf being played. The team lead by the colorful Dave Moore shot a nett 55.1 to finish second. This was a great effort considering in any other scramble it would of won convincingly.

Just winning by 0.2 was the team of Jason and Paul Bowers, Colm Berry and Chris Newman. They certainly took advantage of the great course conditions, team captain Jason added 'we all contributed when needed and holed some important putts, its great to get a team win, and hopefully it will be the first of many'.

1st - Paul and Jason Bowers, Colm Berry and Chris Newman - 55.9
2nd - Keith Gardner, Dave Moore, Gary Hingley and Graham Lee - 56.1

Many thanks to everyone who once again supported the golf centre by entering the nearest the pins and scratch card. It is very much appreciated. Nearest the pin winners - Guy Taylor and John Gallagher - £24 golf centre voucher each. Footy scratch card winner - Tony Willets - £20 golf centre voucher.

Head Coach Phil Moore

Have you not had a lesson off our new head professional Phil Moore yet? The feedback we have had so far is really good especially the follow up emails. Here is an example of one he sent last week and the customers response...

Hi...

It was good to have you down at Cleobury yesterday and I hope that you enjoyed your lesson experience. As we discussed during your lesson, the 5 basic fundamentals of golf are-

1. Grip
2. Posture
3. Stance
4. Ball Position
5. Alignment

These fundamentals are paramount if you want to build any consistency in your golf game. What we worked on last night was your grip, ball position and alignment. With your grip we noticed that it was too strong meaning that you would tend to hit a lot of shots left, or have the golf ball curving a lot to the left. To have a neutral grip, the "V" in your left hand should point to your right ear and the "V" on your right hand should point to your nose.

For you ball position we noticed that it was too far forward in your stance which means that the club face will have more time during the impact to rotate closed and thus hitting the ball left. Finally we also noticed that you were aiming far to far left of the target. This is probably because you were so used to hitting the ball left all the time that sub consciously you would aim further right to counter act that.

I hope this helps, let me know when ever you would like to book another lesson again and we can sort out a time and date that suits you.

Kind regards Phil

Customers reply...

Phil this is a great idea - like it A review of the lesson - this in my opinion is a reflection on the customer service levels given by yourself and the team @ Cleobury

Had a quick 9 holes last night and came in 6 over - so hopefully I can take this into the weekend.

Not bad considering he was off a handicap of 20! Having such detailed notes really helps when it comes to your practice routines after the lesson. It is so easy to finish a lesson and by the time you are home it is difficult to remember everything that was discussed. If you would like a lesson with Phil please call us on 01299 271 112 or click here to send him an email.

I am delighted to be getting such great feedback from my current lessons. I do have room for more clients in my diary.

It is also great to see Colm, Paul and Chris being apart of the winning team in last weeks Texas scramble. All three have had lessons with me and to see them getting success is really rewarding. It goes to show that lessons, practice and persistence really does work.

My next lesson success could be you!
