Greetings golfers, 

It has been a glorious few days here at CMGC, by doing our greens work early the results are really starting to show now with the greens very quick and firm for the time of year. There will be a couple of times during the next 10 days where nine holes will be closed. Tree surgeon work will be taking place on Deer Park. The drainage trencher will also be here, by the time you read this the work will have started. We add extra drainage year on year as a continuous program to try and keep the course in the best possible condition throughout the year, we will talk about this more next week.

Make the most of the great weather and come for a game at CMGC. 

 

Dave and Toms Ryder Review 

I am not sure many would of predicted Thomas Pieters to be the highest points scorer but he certainly delivered for Josh Rowbotham who was lucky enough to have in our sweep. John Westley also picked up the singles win thanks to Brooks Koepka taking down Danny Willet so emphatically. 

There is no doubt the best team won, we would question the decision of playing Martin Kaymer on the Saturday fourballs. We are also a little confused why Chris Wood and Matt Fitzpatrick did not get more game time. Despite some gallant performances in the singles we think it was lost on the first game. 

Seeing McIlroy loosing just did not send the right message to the team, Reed was a class act and sadly Rory just could not get past him. If that top match showed three up etc a different message would of gone into the rest of the team. We all know he will be looking for him again though in 2 years' time and as a betting man it will be the easiest money to take. McIlroy to beat Reed in the 2018 singles.

CMGC Ryder Cup 

What a day it was for the CMGC Ryder Cup, glorious sunshine greeted the 32 players who were gunning to win a respective point for their teams. Team USA led by Stuart Humphries and Team Europe led by Bob Lucas selected their pairings Thursday afternoon. Stuart and Bob would lead the way for their teams and it was Bob and his partner Tram who beat Stuart and his partner Jem Jones 3 and 2. 

Team USA responded in resounding fashion with Jack Severn and Josh Rowbotham winning 3 and 2. Lee Glasby and Mark Southall also won by the same margin to tip the scales in favour of the USA. Team Europe however had other ideas a strong middle pack put together by their captain Bob meant the matches would be turned on their head. John Westley, Pete Smith, Ash Cook and Matt Fairman won and Adam Cook, Lewis Hodges, Andy and Simon Johnson halved. This left the score 4-3 to Europe with the final match out on the course. 

The experienced John Gallagher and Bryan Colley brought home the trophy for team Europe with a 3 and 2 victory to leave the scores 5 and 3. 

Captain Bob had this to say 'On paper we should not of won this, I am really proud of my team for the way they played. No one rolled over, they all battled to the end. We look forward to defending this once again in two years time'. 

The whole day was played in great sprits with many laughs out on the course. A big thank you to Stuart and Bob for being such great captains. It was fantastic to see such a great club spirit, this will surely now become one of the stand out events in the CMGC calendar. 

Talking of match play CMGC have a game against Worcester golf and country club on Friday October 21st. Five players are needed to fill the team it is a 10am tee off at CMGC with a meal after. 3 in a row for Tony 

A big shout out to Tony Colley or should we say podium Colley! After a one hour lesson with myself (Dave) on his short game Tony has picked up three consecutive third places in his last three competitions. 

Those golf centre vouchers will soon be topping up. Thanks to Tony who sent me this message.
