Hello and welcome to all the news and gossip from the one and only CMGC.

As I write this we are in a little bit of a heatwave with it currently topping 25 degrees. Lets hope this continues! Over the last week or so I have been out on the course helping the greenkeepers changing pins, raking bunkers and discussing tee positions. It has been a while since those days but it was a lot of fun and it is great to see the hard work the team put into the course especially in the lead up to a competition. The course really is looking great at the moment and judging by September bookings it should be a busy month.

This weekend it is the Captains Classic, a pairs betterball competition with a twist.

The Club Captain and I will be out at 10.30am playing and if you beat our score we will give you a special prize. A trophy will be up for grabs and entry is £5pp

Think you have what it take to beat us?

Mens Club Championships 2016

The 2016 Mens Club Championships has once again come and gone with some new names on the trophy.

The competition was reduced to 18 holes after some unfortunate weather on Saturday. An excellent turnout saw everyone not only competing for the honour of being the CMGC Club Champions but also the biggest prize pay out in Club Championship history, regular weekend competitors were in the field hoping to win the biggest competition of the year, anyone missing the event must have being extremely disappointed.

The Gross Competition was wide open, with it being over just 18 holes everyone believed they had a chance without having to worry about sleeping on an overnight lead. Dean Carpenter was the first to finish his round with a competitive score, believing he would finish just short, Dean sat back and saw his score continue to hold top spot, with just the last group on the course Dean was still leading. Believing he needed a birdie on the last to force a playoff Jack Severn took aim at the pin, going slightly long on to the fringe of the green, Josh Rowbotham fell inches short of flying the fairway bunker, leaving him with no choice but to just pitch out, Josh was one ahead of Jack playing the last believing he needed a Par for a playoff, a 15 foot par putt slipped by, Jack chipped on and another 2 putts by each player and it was all over and the Gross Champion would be Dean Carpenter.

Dean had this to say "I haven't been playing any good golf recently and to turn up and shoot the winning score is a massive confidence boost!"

In the Nett Competition a steady amount of scores of nett 71 and 72 were starting to roll in throughout the day, the bigger prize pot meant that the nett competition would pay out the top 6 places which would see Simon Eades finish 6th, Ash Cook 5th, Rob Winnall 4th, John Gittens 3rd and Andy Young 2nd. The day however belonged to the one and only Lee Glasby. After a slow start Lee turned up the heat playing the last 7 holes in one under par to help him finish on a nett 68 and win by 3. It has been a great year for Lee on the golf course seeing his handicap drop considerably and always playing with a smile on his face. In his winning speech Lee was quick to thank his playing partner Mark, for helping him keep his mind off the score and to thank the green staff and pro shop staff for their continuous hard work which can sometimes go unnoticed.

Dave Pain (Director of Golf) had this to say: "Lee has been playing some great golf all season and to see him win a Cleobury major is fantastic! Lee is a massive supporter of CMGC and regularly represents the club in competitions and Pro AM's so I'm absolutely delighted for him".

Great Customer Feedback..

"As one of the original founder members of Cleobury Mortimer golf club I thought I would drop you a mail congratulating you on the great service I had over the Club Championship weekend, on the torrential rain soaked Saturday I had a slight mishap with my 3 wood, I took both pieces into the pro shop and was met by Amy who I have to say was very sympathetic to my demise, she was on the case straight away contacting Rob Grier from Stone Driving Range who had fitted me for my new clubs, Rob dropped off a new shaft that same day, and the 3 wood was up and running for the following day! Great service that's the benefit from purchasing goods from the pro shop. Great customer service from Amy.

Many thanks,
Bob Lucas"
