Cleobury Mortimer Golf Club Director of Golf
A warm welcome to everyone this week, hopefully you have all had a chance to grab a game recently and enjoy the weather. This past week has seen a lot of great golf individually, which we will report on further down. However we must mention our club teams. The Seniors Team recently won away at Bewdley Pines and the Scratch Team beat Perton at home last weekend, congratulations to you both.
The summer conditions were well and truly on show at CMGC. With the course looking spectacular and the near perfect weather meant a good score was out there. Bob Barlow fresh from winning division two in the seniors competitions continued his fine form with a very respectable 39 points to finish third and see his handicap cut to 21.8. Rob Winnall showed what a crazy game golf is, last week he finished bottom of division 1 with 27 points and this week he won it with 40 points to see him edging ever closer to single figures.
The day however belonged to Neil Brydon who had his best ever round at Cleobury on his way to a huge 43 points and reach his lowest ever handicap.
Neil had this to say "I have been working with Dave on my driving and today it went really well, I didn't miss many fairways which makes the game a lot easier. There are some big competitions coming up soon and I hope to be in the mix".
What is quite funny about Neil is that on Friday he came up to confirm his Texas Scramble tee time not realising it had been changed to an individual competition… every cloud I guess.
Neil has worked really hard on his game over the last three months, he has had some great results in the club knockouts and I am really pleased that he is now getting his just rewards with handicap reductions.
Bob Barlow Success
I am really please to see Bob Barlow progressing with his golf. Bob was one of the original 12 to take on the seven lessons for £99 package. He has been working really hard over the season and the hard work is paying off with a seniors competition win and third place finish in the mens stableford. Bob was kind enough to pass on these kind words.
"Good morning Dave,
Just a brief note to thank-you for your help and advice over the past few weeks, I found the whole experience extremely enjoyable.
As you are aware, I opted for your seven lesson golf package which effectively allowed us to cover all the major aspects of my game.
As individuals our capabilities and aims vary considerably and this is perhaps even more relevant when applied to the game of golf.
From my own perspective I considered it extremely beneficial to have a double lesson which I tended to follow up immediately after with a nine hole practice round and this undoubtedly helped to consolidate what I had learned from you during the lesson beforehand.
I now tend to think my shots through with a more positive and committed approach being particularly mindful of course management and remembering to concentrate on a target area before playing the ball.
Your follow up action in providing lesson notes has also proven invaluable for reference purposes.
I would have no hesitation in recommending other members to take full advantage of your lessons whether or not they intend to have a full course of lessons or simply require the occasional lesson to tweak certain aspects of their game.
I appreciate that Rome wasn't built in a day but you have certainly set me on the right path to hopefully improve my game and ultimately get down to my personal goal of playing off 18 handicap."
Amy's Lesson Successes:
A few weeks ago in the July Stableford one of my lesson clients Rob Pinner shot a fantastic 40points taking top spot and winning the competition. Rob had a lesson with me a week before and has been working hard on what we chatted about and from the look of Rob's score its great to see that improvements have been made! Great result Rob.
If you are struggling with an area of your game, get in contact and I can help you get results!
Tom Judges it perfectly
On Wednesday 3rd August our Junior section competed in The Telegraph Junior Golf Championship.
This competition involves the first round being held at the juniors own club and whoever has the best stableford score goes through to the next round.
A running leaderboard is available to see what scores are making qualifying to go to The main Finals which are held at Quinta do Lago Golf Club in Portugal.
We had 9 of our juniors take part and with them all playing well we were hoping for some great scores. Tom Judge topped the table with a fantastic 43 points with Abbie Johnson coming second.
Golf Professional Amy Millward had this to say: "It's great to see all our juniors playing so well and reducing their handicaps over the summer. All junior section is getting stronger all the time and its great to see them getting involved in a range of competitions".

Chris who had never played the Course before and beat a field of over 60 ladies from clubs across the County in some very inclement weather. Chris joined the Club less than a year ago has been a key member of the section and the Droitwich League Team.
Who needs to play with Woods
Following her success in the Club Championship nett winner Juliet Dugdale has now proved she can play just as well without a single wood in her golf bag. With her longest club being a 4 iron Juliet won the Iron Lady Competition on Wednesday 27 July with 34 stableford points. In second place was Helen Watson with 29 stableford points. Well played Juliet.
Stephanie, Sally, George and Tracy were all very busy over the weekend with golfers and a wedding on Saturday and then on Sunday the local footpath association stopped by to enjoy a fantastic ploughmans dinner washed down with a Hobsons Twisted Spire before settling down to watch Whalebone.

Community Transport Charity Golf Day
Friday 9th September sees CMGC host the Community Transport Charity Golf Day. Bev Coldrick recently paid us a visit at CMGC to give us an insight in to the work Community Transport carry out.
Community Transport provides door-to door transport for people in and around North West Worcestershire. Our services are designed for people in need of transport, who due to their age, illness, disability or lack of an adequate Public Bus service have no other means.
We currently have around 45 volunteers who use their own vehicles, and are fully trained and DBS checked, we also have 3 designated wheelchair vehicles. At present we do around 400 journeys per week including medical, leisure, visiting, and holidays to name a few.
The events includes Tea/ Coffee and Bacon Roll on arrival before a 1.30pm Shotgun start with plenty of prizes up for grabs and a two course meal after play. The organisers have limited it to 20 teams on a first come first served basis. The day costs £180 per four ball.
Contact Simon or T on 01299 409040 for entry form or email firstname.lastname@example.org.

There's always going to be an element of luck with any hole-in-one, but this is something else! Sadly for Thomas Bjørn, it won't go down as a competitive ace.. Still… worth a watch.
Have a great golfing week and we hope to see you at CMGC very soon.
