Good morning/afternoon/evening everyone and welcome once again to the week's tales and stories of the one and only CMGC. What a week it has been, the course is looking fantastic, some great golf has been played and strangely we have been busier midweek than the weekends!

The greenkeepers have added some strong fertiliser to the greens to get the grass growing nice and thick. It is a mix that contains seaweed so don't be put off by the smell and the black patch it gives off.

It must be the fact that I have hit 31 and getting forgetful, I took this photo out on the course but can't remember where…. First person to email in and jog my memory with the correct hole wins a sleeve of Srixon Z-Stars.

Upcoming Competitions

After so many Texas Scrambles over the last month or so this weekend's competition has now been changed to a Stableford competition to give you all a chance of getting a qualifying competition in. Following on from that we have Presidents Day, hosted by Tom Straughton. This gives players the unique opportunity to play all 27 holes in one competition. There are however tee times just for people wanting to play 18 or 9 holes. Get your entries in via the golf centre.

Well the CMGC team could well of made you money last week. Amy said Beef would make the cut and Tom said Jason Day each way. Kaymer and Stenson finished seventh so depending on the book maker you could have also made money.

3rd David Summerhays - Mike James - Stuburt shoes
4th Branden Grace - Ted Hurst - Stuburt lined jumper

Competition news

Jack Severn - Personal Best

Huge well done to 15 year old Jack Severn who shot a gross 67 (44 points) in the weekend stableford.

This is Jacks lowest ever round here at CMGC and his first 18 holes with his new Callaway Golf driver that he was fitted with at CMGC last week which has given him 30 yards... Yes 30 yards extra off the tee.

Jack was one of the first to sign up for lessons with me back in March and his hard work is certainly paying off... He is now down to a 3 handicap!

Jack is the Worcestershire under 16's captain and also a starter for the under 18's.

CMGC has produced some great players in the past but no male this young shooting these kind of scores.

Another star of the future for sure.

The score of 44 however was not enough for Jack to win the competition, Ian Orme also shot a personal best 44 points including 24 points on the back nine to snatch first place from Jack on countback.

This fantastic knock by Ian sees his handicap cut to 18 from 21.

Professional Amy Millward caught up with Ian after his round:

"Ian was playing well with 20 points around Badgers Sett but to shoot 24 points around Deer Park is near enough unheard of so he certainly deserves this win".

Junior news

Junior Open at CMGC

Monday 1st August saw CMGC hold their Second Junior Open and what a success it was with a growing field of competitors. With some great scores entering from the word go, we knew the competition level was high.

After a 4 under gross on the weekend Club Member Jack Severn lead the Gross and the Nett with a 2 over par 70 and Nett 69. Constance Brooks of Gaudet Luce also had a solid round shooting an 80 gross picking up the Best Girls Gross Prize.

As the afternoon continued more and more good golf was playing with Nett scores of 69 and 68 coming from Rosanna Halls and Lili Rose Hunt, which would take 2nd and 3rd Place in the girls Nett competition. As for the boys nett prizes Jack Belli Shot a Nett 70 for third place and Elliot Jones shot a 69 for 2nd place (Jack Severn would have won second in the Nett but won best boys gross).

The best scores of the day would be taken by the very last group out, with Mark Hewlett scoring a Nett 67 to win the boys nett prize. However the Girls Nett winner and Overall Champion was won by Charlotte Helme of The Grove, who shot a 66 Nett to lift the Junior Open Trophy!

CMGC Future In Safe Hands

Cleobury juniors played their last home match of the season & finished with a solid 4-0 win against Darnford Moors which should give the team lots confidence for next year, especially as we were missing two of our top players Arnold Edmonds & Tom Judge

Jack & Abbie Johnson continued their unbeaten run winning 3-1(won 3 of their last 3).

Tom & George Rawlings turned their match around to win 2-1.

Charlie Edwards& George Adams ran away with their match 8-7.

Louie Edwards & Ollie Walters triumphed by also turning their match around winning on the last.

One of the Darnford youngsters got a hole in one on the 5th foxes & was presented with a small memento by our Captain which went down really well.
