Cleobury Mortimer Golf Club Director of Golf
On Friday 1st July it's our birthday, on this day back in 1993 we opened our doors. As we start our 24th year of operation it is time to have a look back and see how the club has developed over those years. For those who do not know here are some significant dates:
1993 - CMGC opened as a 9 hole golf course (Deer Park)
1995 - Club house extension with upstairs room added
1996 - Badgers Sett opened 1999 - Foxes Run Open
2000 - Pro shop extended, changing rooms extended and kitchen made bigger
2006 - Lodges opened
2016 - Lodge extension work starts
Quite a bit has happened over the years and I have only listed a little bit but I am sure if the course could talk it would have some tales to tell. From the Pain family to the: members, staff, visitors and everyone associated with the club we thank you so much for the support over the years.
We will never stand still, we are always striving for a better golf course, service and experience at the club. Here are some pictures from when the course opened, just a tad different now!
Which hole is it that Rob and Graham are laying turf down assisted by a 2 year old Sam Pain? -Email us here. Multiple winners will go into a draw, the winner will get 1 dozen AD333 Tour golf ball.
Current Course Conditions
The phone has not stopped ringing this week and judging by the car park CMGC is a preferred choice for golfers at the moment. The course is looking fantastic as these pictures highlight. Last Call For Jon and Ange
Club captain Jon Gaskell and his wife Ange are putting the finishing touches to their Rainbow Cancer Care Foundation charity golf day. Jon has confirmed with me that nearly 150 people are currently playing in this day on Friday 8th July . Entry is just £140 per team of four (£35 each) and includes the following:
Coffee and bacon roll, 18 holes and prizes, Ange's famous cakes in the half way house finished with a buffet in the clubhouse after your round. The format is individual stableford along with a team event with the best two scores on each hole counting.
Jon and Ange work tirelessly for this charity and last year raised over £10,000.
If you would like to enter this great event please contact Dave at CMGC or email John email@example.com to get your teams booked in.
It was party time at CMGC as the club celebrated it's birthday with an open anniversary competition open to both members and visitors. The club opened on July 1st 1993 and it was great to see a packed field of 21 teams joining in on the celebrations as the club enters its 24th year of operation.
Teams from across the West Midlands and further afield (a team from Bath came up) enjoyed some fantastic weather in between the odd rain shower.
Home advantage was key however with the top two teams coming from Cleobury. Carl Badger, Mark Spittle, Anthony Edwards and Alan Prophet picked up third place with a very impressive 56.6 nett in the Texas scramble format.
The first team out held top spot for most of the day: Paul Bowers, David Annetts, Duncan Trow and the inform Colm Berry shot a hugely impressive 55.7 nett which would of won any other event here at CMGC.
However Charlie, Louie, John and Dave had other ideas, after a 5 under gross front nine the lads continued that fantastic form to finish on 54.2 nett to take top spot.
Speaking in the clubhouse after play they all agreed it was a team effort.
'We all contributed and held some big putts when we needed to which is what you need to do in a texas scramble. There are some other team tournaments coming up shortly which we look forward to entering'.
Well played to all and thank you very much for the support over the years.
1st - Charlie Edwards, Louie Edwards, John Gittins, Dave Booton - 54.2 nett

This fantastic brand has flown out of the door here at CMGC in 2016 and we have the winter range coming in September. However this week Tom from Under Armour visited us to showcase the summer 2017 range. We still have several items in stock for this season but very limited sizes.
Here is a sneaky peak at what to expect in 2017.
Remember we offer 2 performance polo shirts for £50 or any 2 heat gear shirts for £60.
Lady Captains Day!
After having to be rescheduled due to the bad weather last Wednesday, this week everything was in the ladies favour for a beautiful day for Nina's Lady Captains Day! It was a great turn out with all the ladies having a great time. Nearest the pins, putting competition, a halfway hut and afternoon tea, and of course the 3 trophies for each division, there was lots of things to enjoy and win!
Lady Captains Day has a winner from each division.
Silver, Bronze 1 and Bronze 2.
The winner of the Silver division and winning the Sara Pain Cup was Wendy Duncan with 36 points.
The winner of the Bronze 1 division and winning the Lynne Pinner Cup was Chris Perry with 31 points.
And the winner of the Bronze 2 division winning the Bunny Cup was Sian Hawes with 34 points. Sian will also see her handicap cut to 35.
I (Amy) am slowly getting busier with my lessons, thank you so much to the people who have supported me so far, I'm so grateful!
This week I saw one of my clients win and see a handicap cut.
After just one individual lesson with myself Sian Hawes has picked up a trophy winning the bunny cup on Lady Captains Day as well as getting her handicap cut by a shot.
Sian has been playing some good golf, however has been struggling to keep the score going over 18 holes. After looking at her swing we have made some changes that seem to have made instant improvements.
It's great to have Sian winning and getting her handicap cut, with some more lessons in the pipeline we should see the handicap dropping even more.
If anybody is looking to find that change to get their handicap dropping, please book a lesson to start playing some great golf.
Do you have any unwanted branded golf clubs? Well here at CMGC we can help. Drop the clubs into Matt and he will send them off to Golfbidder. Whatever is made on the clubs we will then present to you in a voucher to spend in the CMGC golf shop.

Just to prove that the unmentionables can strike anyone… this happened to poor Jon Rahm, playing in his first ever event as a professional. As if that wasn't bad enough, Shot Tracker technology captured it all!
Have a great golfing week and we hope to see you at CMGC very soon.
