Cleobury Mortimer Golf Club Director of Golf
Hello and welcome once again to the latest instalment of all things CMGC! This week has been a blur with everyday rolling into one. The sun has been shining, the golfers tan is coming through and the course looking fantastic. The club received a great review from the county match last week which can be read by clicking here. This week we have had some huge events taking place and that shows no signs of slowing down with 16 teams in for the RSPCA Charity Day today (Friday 10th June).
Enjoy the read this week and as normal if you would like to play please call us on 01299 271112 to book a tee time. You really can't beat some evening golf, these are a couple of pictures we took last week.
Euros - Sweep and drinks promos..
Euro 2016, dare we dream again? I personally can't wait for the tournament to start and as always, I have high hopes once again for the Three Lions. As well as England, we will of course be hoping Wales, Republic of Ireland, Northern Ireland and Hungary all have good tournaments. To kick things off we launched our Euro 2016 sweep which sold out in record time so thank you to everyone who participated in that.
During all of England's group stage games (hopefully more games to follow) we will be having some drink promotions including selected Real Ale at £2.50 a pint and selected Bottles of Beer 4 for £10.
To make things that little bit more interesting we decided that if JAMIE VARDY scores, selected Real Ale will be just £2 a pint and selected bottles of beer will be just 4 for £8 until full time.
Dave, Matt, Tom and Amy will all be at CMGC Saturday watching us take on the Russians. See you there.
Just over a weeks time until one of the highlights of the CMGC Golfing calender, Captains Weekend. The Seniors tee off proceedings on Friday with a Stableford before the Juniors contest a 9 hole competition Friday evening. Don't forget we will have the Par 3 competition and a couple of other games all for a bit of fun and a social gathering, everyone is welcome so why not come along and get involved.
Saturday involves a Medal for the Men playing for the Captains Cup whilst the Ladies will play a Stableford competition.
Early on Sunday we have the annual Captains V Presidents match which is a Shotgun start at 8.30am which is open to Men, Ladies, Seniors and Juniors. Following the classic match, the prize presentation will take place where all prize winners and participants over the weekend are invited to join Club Captain Jon Gaskell for a free buffet lunch. If you fancy any more golf after lunch then there is also the Mixed Competition played over 9 holes.
Sign up sheets in the Pro Shop with the Ladies and Mixed competition sheets in the Ladies changing rooms.
Worcestershire Open Pro-Am - June 3rd
The Worcestershire Open Pro-Am returned for its second year at Cleobury Mortimer Golf Club. This huge event that is seen by many as the biggest event within the Worcestershire golf calendar was generously sponsored by local business man and Cleobury member Andy Smith of Kidderminster Self Storage.
With glorious sunshine and the course prepared to perfection the day was set for all to enjoy. A total of 21 professionals from around the county and further afield brought teams to battle it out. The scoring was a true testament of how much the course has matured over the years with just one professional under par.
David Finch, Adam Whiting, Chris Mole, Tom Warbrick and Matt Jones all shared third place with a one over par 35 points. Ryan Corbett of the Worcestershire finish level on 36 points, which was enough to give him second place outright.
The day belonged to Daniel Clee of Evesham Golf Club, Daniel put on a faultless display on his way to a 3 under par 39 points.
Despite making just one point on the first hole Matt Jones of Moor Park with his team of Cleobury Members won the team event on 81 points on back count from the talented Bransford lads.
Cleobury's Director of golf Dave Pain had this to say:
'Firstly I would like to thank all of the professionals from the county for supporting the event we host here at Cleobury. Without such strong support the event would not take place. Secondly thank you to Andy Smith for his sponsorship, which allows us to put on such a significant prize pot for the professionals. A big well done to Daniel Clee on his win and a huge thank you to Richard Davies for all his help and support before, during and after the event. I look forward to seeing you all next year'.
Men's Help For Heroes
Fresh from the Worcestershire Open on Friday the members of Cleobury were put through their paces with the same course set up for the Help For Heroes Stableford. Arnold Edmunds and the inform Jack Severn both shot 37 points however a superior back count was enough to give Arnold third place outright.
Josh Rowbotham made the most of his length off the tee on his way to a three over par 39 points. This is great news for Josh who has now seen his handicap cut to 5 and is now just one shot away from the illusive 4 handicap that he needs to start his PGA assistants training.
The day however belonged to Peter Holyoake who shot a huge 41 points, Peter was first out at 7.40am and certainly made the most of the conditions. The firm fairways and true rolling greens caught many out but not Peter.
'I could have been a little tidier on the greens but I am sure all the players rue the missed opportunities. I am really pleased to get my handicap reduced and the overall win with such a big field of players is a huge added bonus'.
Director of golf Dave Pain had this to say.
"Obviously it is great to see Josh getting his handicap cut, he has been working really hard with me on the last two months and although he now has exams I am sure his form will continue. I am really pleased for Pater, 41 points with the course playing long and tough is a great achievement, it also sees him with a hefty handicap cut. These summer conditions seem to really suit his game."
1st - Peter Holyoake - 41 points
2nd - Josh Rowbotham - 39 points
3rd - Arnold Edmunds - 37 points CB

New Flag Positions
A big thanks to the CMGC committee who have just purchased some pin placement flags. These flags are positioned on the flag to indicate if it is on the top, middle or bottom of the green as you are playing it. The club had a lot of requests for these and I am sure you will all agree they are a nice touch.
Check out the video here to see how they work.
