Hello and welcome once again to the latest goings on here at CMGC and what a week it has been. The sun has been shining the course is looking immaculate. Honestly you need to get out there and play, it is certainly at its peak at the moment. This week we were lucky enough to be selected as the venue to host the annual county match between Worcestershire and Glamorgan. Due to Glamorgan having a three hour drive both the under 14's and 16's made the trip up so a total of 48 were playing. With such a large field of golfers there were only a few select golf clubs that would have the capacity to hold such a big event. Thank you to Stuart Pritchard and the Worcester county for selecting us.

Moving on from this the HUGE Worcestershire Open Pro-Am takes place today. This event that is sponsored by Kidderminster Self Storage (owned and ran by CMGC member Andy Smith) will see the best local professional talent take on the course The forecast seems great, could a new course record be shot?

As always please give us a call or email to book a tee time, this weekend is the Help For Heroes Stableford… a great chance to get your handicap cut.

Coaching news

Amy's Lessons:

I'm (Amy) super excited to announce I have launched my lessons!

Over the past few months I have been focusing a lot on my juniors coaching at CMGC and at local schools as well as get into golf and my ladies coffee mornings. However my Individual lesson prices and packages are now available. It would fantastic to see some of you having a lesson with me, I can assure you something will be improved!

y lessons cover all areas of the game, so whatever area you are struggling with I'm here to offer Help and advice. Lesson notes will also follow so that you have visual and written confirmation to refer back too. They have been going great so far with a few people already getting involved and taking them up and seeing improvements straight away.

Prices start at just £15 for an Half an Hour lesson.

Heather Pringle has been having regular individual and group coaching lessons with me and kindly sent over these words.

"Coaching on the course has really helped me think about my course management as well as being good fun and in a relaxed atmosphere. I have seen a considerable improvement in the distance I am hitting the ball after just one lesson focusing on my long game. I would recommend Amy to any golfers looking to improve their game in a structured and relaxed environment."

My diary is available in the shop so please get in touch with me here or call 01299 271112 to book a lesson.

Club news

Worcestershire No1 does it again...

On a score-able Saturday in May, the Cleobury members were battling it out for the Roy Houghton Memorial Trophy in the weekend medal. Some good scores soon started to roll in, with the top four scores on the day all having recently had lessons with Dave. Simon Eades shot a nett 68 which saw his handicap reduced from 14 to 13, Gary Hingley found some good form, also shooting a nett 68 that saw his handicap reduced from 12 to 11 whilst Martin Hatt, again with a Nett 68 but a better countback saw him pip both Simon and Gary. The star of the day however would once again be promising youngster Jack Severn, Jack has had some fantastic scores throughout the winter and is now backing up his winter form as we head in to qualifying season. Jack shot a 1 under par gross 70, nett 65, to take top spot and see's his handicap reduced to a career low 3.9.

Director of Golf Dave Pain added:

'Jack is already seeing some huge gains from his winter preparation, he is the county captain and has a very hectic schedule ahead of him for the forthcoming season.

The work we have been doing is certainly helping him get the best out of his already strong natural talent. A name to keep an eye on for sure'.

Junior news

Amy - Growing the game

With the future of golf, resting on youngsters getting involved in the game, it's important to get them started from an early age, which is exactly what I (Amy) intend to do.

I approached the local schools with a Primary School offer of running an after school to get children involved in the game, with a pathway to junior coaching at CMGC.

I have been doing an after school club at Kinlet for the past term and am continuing this into the summer term, with Bayton, Cleobury and Farlow as well as the high School Lacon Childe all getting involved too.

It's great to see children as young as 5 picking up a putter and having ago. The sessions include putting, chipping and long game and learning this through fun games.

I hope to get as many juniors involved in the game of golf, as its builds life skills but also is a fantastic way to make friends that you can play the sport with for life.

Tour news

CMGC On Tour

A big thank you to Matt Fairman, Lewis Hodge, Ash Cook and Adam Cook who were last week out in Portugal flying the CMGC flag. The lads were out there to celebrate Adam's 30TH birthday, a week of golf must of certainly helped Ash Cook who came back to the UK and shot 39 points to see him get down to single figures!

Well done Ash!

George Does His Bit for Charity

Popular bar manager and the master of the full English breakfast George Molnar recently handed the Rainbow Cancer Care Foundation a cheque for over £500 from his diet challenge.

At the start of the year with the help of a clean nine diet, exercise and salad George dropped 10 kilos. The members of CMGC really got behind him with all the sponsor money coming in from them.

George has this to say 'I would like to thank all the members and friends of CMGC for supporting me in the challenge. It was a lot tougher than I expected but I feel better than ever because of it'.
