Cleobury Mortimer Golf Club Director of Golf
Hello and welcome once again to the latest goings on here at Cleobury Mortimer Golf Club.
So far it has been a great week weather wise with a nice mixture of rain and sun to keep everything nice and lush. The greenkeepers have lowered the cut on the greens mower to 3.2mm, they have also been verti cut twice (to remove the seed heads) and rolled…. They could be a bit quick this weekend… you have been warned!
The membership has continued to grow this week with: Richard, Codie, Mike, Ian and David all joining the ranks. If anyone does fancy a game this weekend the every popular CMGC full English and 18 holes is available from 7.30am!
Pictured above is what the course is currently looking like.
Pictured here is what member Gavin Withey does to a golf buggy when his mates come down to stay in the lodges!
A few days in one of our award winning ego lodges makes for the perfect getaway, give me (Dave) a shout if you would like more information.
Talking of sun, our shorts ranges have now dropped and we have all sizes in stock. Stuburts are priced at £25 or two pairs for £40.
Double Roll Up.
With some fantastic weather over the weekend we could not expect anything less than some fantastic scores, and we weren't disappointed.
After having a few weeks off Paul Westwood jumped straight back into the swing of things and shot a successful 40 points, Graham Fletcher returned to form after a slow winter, also shooting 40 points.
However the day belonged to Ian Davies who continued his form after finishing 2nd in a county competition last week and shot 41 points to come out of top and seeing his handicap cut to 19.
Assistant Professional Amy had this to say:
"Ian has been playing great recently, hoping to reduce his handicap and after having 18 hole with him recently it was only time before he shot a fantastic round, which we saw on the weekend, with one bad hole it could have been so much better! Some great golf was played over the two days, well done to everyone involved".
1st Ian Davies 41 points
2nd Paul Westwood 40 points
3rd Graham Fletcher 40 points
Pro-Am - Friday 3rd June
The Worcestershire Open pro am here at CMGC is fast approaching, this event is sponsored by Kidderminster Self Storage and is the stand out tournament in the Worcestershire calendar.
Entry is £180 per team of four, including food, prizes and an all round. 18 teams are currently in, if you know of any PGA pros out there pass on this information and get involved.
A great event not to be missed.
Constantly wanting to know how far it is to the flag or to that bunker or that tree?
No need to think anymore, a Bushnell is what you need.
The new laser measuring device has just landed at CMGC!
Once you have had one there's no going back, no consideration is needed for how far it is and so club selection is easy.
If you are 3 yards away, 260 yards or 500 yards away from Dave's nose you will have the exact measurement to you in seconds and for just £199 can you afford to be so many yards of the distance? Just look how serious Dave is now using it…. Those 7 yard putts can be tough to judge!
New CMGC Young Guns Off To A Great Start......
Cleobury juniors kicked off their season last Saturday with a home game against a strong Kings Norton team who had already beat Bewdley Pines both home & away.
This was a relatively new team under newly appointed Junior Captain Jack Severn, with nearly half the team playing their first competitive match.
With a tough first match the team handled themselves really well, doing Cleobury proud. An impressive first game saw Jack & Abbie take an early three-up lead, with Jack birding three of the first four holes on deer, but Kings Norton came back in the last three holes finishing with three nett birdies, so game ended as an A/S.
Game number two saw debutant Tom Judge partner Tom Rawlings, against tough opposition they battled out a two-up victory which went down the last. It was a great performance from both, this pair will be difficult to beat as both are improving fast.
Game three saw another debutant George Adams partner Arnold Edmunds. Against tough opponents they held a one shot lead with three to play, but lost the next two, having to battle for a half up the last. In fact with how the matches went this was a decider with George holing a superb five footer to halve the game and match, well done to Arnold who showed maturity in guiding George through his first game.
Game four saw debutant Ollie Walters partner experienced Jem Jones, unfortunately Jem could not repeat his current great form and had one of those days where nothing dropped. Sadly against a good Kings Norton pairing. Ollie & Jem lost 7 & 6, but I know this pair will be back fighting.
Chris and Pam March On
Chris Perry and Pam Wright played their third round match in the Daily Mail Foursomes on 10th May against two ladies from Kidderminster.
Going one down on the third on Badgers and two down on the fifth, they then managed to win the 8th and 9th to be all square at the turn.
Winning the first 4 holes on Deer Park to go four up, with the next two holes halved they won 4&3.
