Greetings golfers,

What a difference a few dry days can make here at CMGC with snow on the ground on Saturday we had the buggies back on on Monday! As normal here at the club it has been non stop, the shop is jam packed with stock, lessons flying in, members joining and of course many golfers out their enjoying the sunshine.

Obviously with so much rain falling the greenkeepers have been working around the clock getting the course into shape. The tees, fairways, surrounds, first cut and bunkers have all been worked on this week and as the pictures shows we are back. It may have been wet but the lads don't half get it good quickly.

Click here to see how good the greens are rolling.

Please note this Sunday is very busy, please call us in advance to book a tee time as there will be times when all 3 tees are full.

Also don't forget the Wednesday night roll ups are now up and running, simply roll up to the club from 4pm and play nine holes with whoever is there, a great way to meet other members.

FootJoy Superlites - the ideal summer shoe £60

Hopefully it is time to put the heavy waterproof shoes away for the summer now and get some spikeless golf shoes. These shoes offer great stability in the dryer months but all also extremely comfortable and light.

If it is light and breathable shoes you are after the new Footjoy superlites are the shoes for you. They weigh just 1.15 pounds and fit like slippers. The Athletically designed waterproof uppers feature ventilation panels to blend air circulation and protection from the elements. Cushioned fit beds provide underfoot and heel support.

Priced at just £60 and the first 3 people to buy a pair will get a FREE pair of FootJoy pro dry ankle socks worth £10. Available in 8, 9, 10 and 11.

Fitting news

Tom's Fitting

Last Saturday I made the trip over to Stone Driving Range to get fitted for some new clubs with Rob Grier, after a short warm up Rob soon started recording all my data thanks to his TrackMan technology, it was interesting to see so much information such as Spin Rate, Club Speed, Launch Angle, Attack Angle, Face Angle, Ball Speed and Carry and I was able to see the difference between my own clubs and all the different clubs I tried. Rob was thorough throughout the whole session, constantly changing shafts and clubs in order for me to not only gain extra distance but improve on several of the areas mentioned above.

It was great to try several brands and to narrow down what clubs would best suit my game, the basics such as getting the right shafts, the correct lie angle and consistent gaps between the lofts of each club can make a massive difference and puts your mind at ease that the clubs you have are right for you. I would fully recommend the whole experience and I would encourage anyone who is considering getting some new clubs to get fitted over at Stone Driving Range where you know you will be well looked after, don't forget Cleobury members get free fittings at Stone.

Competition news

Lee Makes it 4 from 4

What a start to the season it has been for Cleobury's Lee Glasby. In his last four competitions he has only gone and won them all! This was rounded off with 40 points in the weekend competition, although Lee was one of four players on 40 points a fantastic 20 points on Foxes Run gave him the win. As mentioned this was his 4th win a row to go with his wins at Patshull Park, Sapey and Ombersley.

I (Dave) have played a lot of golf with Lee over the last year and he hits a great ball and it is no surprise to see him at the top of the leader board. It was also great to see two of my lessons taking 2nd and 3rd place. Jem Jones and Jack Severn also recorded 40 points. Jem especially after just one putting lesson, his aim is to get down from 18 to 14. Jack is also playing some great golf and his aim is to get down to 3. Both lads practice hard and believe in their abilities which is very important.

Winner Lee added "I am really pleased with this win, I did not play my best but scrambled really well which is something I normally struggle with. My game is becoming more adaptable from the practice I have been doing, I cannot wait for the qualifiers".

Coaching news

Player Profile

Once again a huge thank you to everyone that has supported me and my lessons. The feedback has been fantastic and the word seems to be spreading with a constant influx of golfers of all abilities coming to me for help and advice. This week I am going to talk about Josh Rowbotham and the work we are doing. Many of you will know Josh who works on the bar here at CMGC in between attending Ludlow college and of course playing golf..

Josh is looking to follow in Amy's footsteps and turn pro and become a golf assistant professional and split his time between here and our friends at Stone Driving Range. Josh approached me to get his handicap down to 4 in order to turn pro but with some practice and dedication we want to see Josh get down tot 3. We are having intensive 2/3 hour sessions once a week and covering everything from practice routines, course management, scrambling, short game… the lot! Josh has been working really hard on his swing plane, this basically means that when he is swinging the club at the take back and follow through it is on line to the intended target as shown in his divot pattern. This will lead to straighter shots, more distance and more control.

Josh is now waiting for the qualifying competitions to start and I have no doubt in his ability that he will reach his goal.

If you see Josh on the bar, feel free to have a chat with him about his golf, the lessons and his career goals.

Remember it is just £99 for the Lucky 7 lesson package.

Email me HERE and lets get the first lesson booked in.

The results on the day saw Necia Hall win the Ladies nearest the pin and Garry Hawes win the mens, with the wining team consisting of Pam Wright, Sian Hawes and Jamie Fearnley.
