Greetings golfers,

Well well well, our April fools last week certainly worked and fooled quite a few people hook line and sinker.

Sorry if any offence was caused by it, I think the way we wrote it caught a few people out. Aside from many people coming into the golf centre asking for change for the parking meter it has been a great week with so much going on, so sit back relax and enjoy the read.

Here is me in the car park standing like an idiot before Tom's photo shop skills came into play.

After last weeks final call on the taster membership we have now hit the magic 30 number. It is a fantastic achievement to get 30 new members in 3 weeks. We hope you all settle into the club and enjoy being a member.

Team CMGC Performing Away From Home

The latest round of the Shropshire Alliances took place at Patshall Park on Thursday 31st April. On what felt like a summers day the team of: Tom Pain, Gary Hingley, Ian Dorrell and Lee Glaseby played some great golf on their way to shooting 85 points which would see them in the prizes taking 4th spot.

The standout performer however was Lee Glaseby, after starting with just one point on the first Lee quickly found his stride to shoot a fantastic 39 points and take top spot with the best amateur score, this was made even more impressive when you take in to account that the score was off three quarter handicap.

Reflecting on Lee's score was playing partner Tom:

'We knew Lee was more than capable of shooting a great score, his course management was particularly impressive today when there was a lot of short par 4's, hopefully Lee can kick on from here and see his handicap come down throughout the summer'.

Talking of Pro Am's, I am looking to put a team into the Cleobury Shropshire and Herefordshire Alliance next Tuesday (April 12). The cost is cheaper for Cleobury members, 18 teams are currently down and with the form I am in a fancy our chances for a team win on home soil. Price includes coffee and bacon roll, 18 holes, prizes and a 1 course meal after.

If anyone wants to join my team please contact me HERE or call the club on 01299 271112.

Beer Festival Year Off

It is with a heavy heart we have had to postpone the Cleobury Beer and Music festival for 2016. As you all know myself (Dave) and Tom are the main organisers with Graham and Aaron Booton. With Tom flat out getting the online booking system up and running and myself extremely busy with my coaching and normal day to day golf centre hours we felt we could not give it our full attention. Seeing as we are perfectionist and like things to be done properly it made no sense to do the festival half heartedly.

Do not despair we will look to to getting it back on the calendar next year.

Club news

Best of luck Josh Carpenter

Congratulations to Cleobury's Josh Carpenter who has got through to the final stage of the EuroPro Qualifying. In the first stage at The Players Club in Bristol, Josh shot rounds of 77, 67 to finish 5th overall. This result ensures Josh will get eight starts on the tour but he now turns his attentions to the final stage where the top 30 gain their full cards. The final is held at Frilford Heath golf club over 36 holes, a cut is then made and the final 18 holes is played for the top 30 places.

We all wish Josh the best, he was born and raised in Cleobury and it is great to see a local lad doing well. For those who do not know who he is, you often see him on the putting green working hard on his game.

Emily Price 2 from 2

Obviously you know all about Emily Price and the talent she has, well after winning last week she has now won again! A fantastic start to the season making it two wins from two. Some of the players she is beating in these tournaments are Curtis cup players and of very high standard.

16 year old Emily Price from Cleobury Mortimer Golf Club, Worcestershire won the 2016 Leveret FLGC Formby Leveret by one shot from Curtis Cup squad member Rochelle Morris (Woodsome Hall).

Emily, who won the Whittington Ladies' Trophy on Tuesday, was the only player to beat par in difficult wet and windy conditions. Emily shot rounds of 72 and 69 to win by one.

Millward's Merchandise

As its Masters Week, Millwards Merch is all about Sunday and Jordan Spieth's Outfit.

We currently have in Stock his OFFICAL Sunday shirt.

The UA 'Chip In' Stripe Polo is just £39.99 which you could be wearing Sunday just like Jordan when he could be picking up his second green jacket.

This Shirt has some amazing features, it includes a moisture transport system which wicks sweat and dries fast, has a fuller cut for complete comfort and includes Revolutionary coldblack┬« technology which reflects IR & heat rays, so even dark colours don't get as hot.

We have 2 Medium, 2 Large, 2 XL and 1 XXL. Grab it while stocks last!

If you fancy the outfit we will do the shirt, match play trousers and webbing belt for £100!

Tips from the team

Winner - Rory Mcilroy 9/1 - he has had a quiet winter picking the tournaments he wants to play in but I have no doubt he will be near the top after the first round and will relish the tussles with the new big names like Speith, Day and Fowler. I think Rory will take home the green jacket and complete the career grand slam whilst also letting everyone know hes still here and the worlds best.

Each way - I am going to give the each way bet a miss this year and say Andy Sullivan to finish in the top 20 at 4/1 is a great price. The cheerful English lad is making his debut and don't be surprised to see him in the mix after 3 rounds.

Winner - Phil Mickelson- 19/1 -Three Time winner at Augusta, showing some form in recent tournaments and you know no matter where he is on the course, he can always get the ball up and down.

Top 20- Bryson DeChambeau 6/1 US Amateur Champion who will be making his move in to the professional game after The Masters.

Played practice rounds with Phil Mickelson as well as Ben Crenshaw (who gave Spieth plenty of advice last year) so should be clued up on how to attack the course.

Winner - Jason Day 13/2 - The current World Number 1 golfer, he is on top form with 6 wins from his last 13 tournaments. the green jacket is his for the taking.

Each Way - Zach Johnson 60/1 - He's a past masters champion, so he knows how to play Augusta. His last two tournaments have seen him finish in the Top 5 so he should be a good each way bet.

Winner - Justin Rose - 26/1 - Great performances across all majors last year and second to Speith at Augusta.

Each way - Paul Casey - 67/1 - Coming back to form, has had good finishes at Augusta and joining the PGA tour full time will only increase his chances.

Winner - Louis Oosthuzien - 34/1 - Showing great form going in to the tournament and is under the radar with less pressure than the worlds top 3..

Each way - Jordan Speith 10/1 - A strange each way bet you may think but you have got to bet big to win big. He loves Augusta and should be certain of a top 5 finish.

Winner - Rickie Fowler - 17/1 - has been close in the majors several times, this weekend could be his turn.

Each way - Danny Willet - 67/1 - an Englishman who is doing really well in the USA, he knows how to win and is a great each way bet.

Competition news

Judgement Day

What a weekend it was for Cleoburys Paul Judge, 42 points in the Saturday roll up in the tough wet conditions were followed with a hole in one on the very tough 8th of Deer Park.

We don't see many people have hole in ones on that hole especially when it is playing so long at the moment.

Director of golf Dave Pain had this to say 'Paul has been playing CMGC for years but finally took the plunge and joined in January, he was the first person to purchase the 7 lesson package from me and a few tweaks on the swing plane are certainly working based on the weekend he has just had. I am expecting a big season from him'.

Paul picks up a nice FootJoy shirt from his weekend roll up win. Arnold Edmunds won the Sunday round with 37 points.

Ladies news

Ladies continue winning run!

CMGC's ladies continued their good run in the Mail on Sunday Classic as they progressed into the 4th round by beating Worcester Golf and Country Club 4-1.

The team consisted off: Lady Captain Nina Foord, Julie Currie, Gloria Bulllock, Sue Griffiths and Chris Perry

Past ladies captain Julie Currie had this to say:

'We had some successful wins today and the only loss was taken to the 18th. We are all happy with how we played and hopefully we can get another home drawn in the next round'.

Have a great week everyone and enjoy the Masters, fingers crossed we can win you some money.
