Hello and a warm welcome to the members and friends of CMGC for this week's newsletter.

As normal the decent weather over Easter has seen a massive spur in golf and we are starting to get very busy. The course has continued to hold up great with some great comments from people playing.

Our taster membership has gone really well with just 7 left to sell on the £150 offer. Remember it is 3 months full membership and a free lesson for just £150, call 01299271112 to get involved! Plus you get to play one of the best par 3's in the West Midlands on a regular basis.

A big welcome to…

Jane, Rick, John, Ade, Stuart, John, Jon, Neil, Claire, William, David, Ian, Tom, Harry, Ken, Paul, Kevin, Ashley, Samuel, George, Tony, Ian and Eddie

We all hope you have a great time as members.

Please note the greenkeepers have asked for your co-operation whilst they crack on with the tining and light top dressing of the greens over the next week. This will result in 9 holes been closed at a time so they can get the work done quickly and efficiently to reduce inconvenience to golfers.

With Masters week just around the corner that means it is time for our first sweep of the season. £3 a go or two for £5 . Prizes for the first 4 outright and also the player that finishes dead last. FootJoy and Stuburt have supoorted us with the prizes.

Speed Golf at Cleobury Mortimer Golf Club.

We all enjoy our golf here at CMGC, you really can't beat it on a warm summers day socialising with friends and making some birdies however a recent study suggests that the time it takes to play golf can sometimes discourage people from taking up this great game. Here at CMGC we are always open to new ideas in order to speed up play, which we hope you will find useful.

- Use the time you spend getting to your ball to think about the next shot - the yardage, the club selection. When you reach your ball you'll need less time to figure out the shot.

- Be early for your tee time. Proper pace of play begins with teeing off at the appointed time. Allow time for unloading your equipment, putting on your golf shoes, any desired practice or warm-up, purchasing any refreshments and getting to the first tee.

- Begin reading the green and lining up putts as soon as you reach the green. Don't wait until it's your turn to putt to start the process of reading the green. Do it as soon as you reach the green so that when it's your turn you can step right up and putt.

To further encourage players to play quicker golf, our overseas friend Sam Pain suggested it might be worth trialling a system that he has seen work well, the golf course parking meter.

The parking meter will see players pay £1 for up to 2 hours parking at CMGC, £2 for up to 4 hours and £3 for up to 6 hours etc. We hope that this system will encourage players to play 'ready' and quicker golf, which will lead to more enjoyment. Sam also mentioned this had lead to many people now sharing lifts to and from the golf course which will also be beneficial for the environment.

The parking meter will be simple to use, just enter your registration and pay for the time you require. Off peak parking charges will be available at half the price. We are also exploring the option of having a season pass which will last for one year.

The parking meter will be in use with immediate effect, with the profits going towards a new flat screen TV for the conservatory.

Pictured is Dave with the parking meter. Please note failure to buy a parking ticket will result in a £20 fine.

Impressive Emily wins by five in Whittington Trophy

Girl international Emily Price has scored her first win in women's golf with an impressive five-shot victory in the Whittington Ladies' Trophy. Price, a past English U15 girls' champion, was three-under for the 36 holes at Whittington Heath in Staffordshire - and the only player to beat par in demanding weather conditions of gusting winds and rain.

"I was a bit surprised, there were some good players there and I wasn't the lowest handicap," said the 16-year-old from Cleobury Mortimer Golf Club. "I just kept my head down and did what I had to do, played the course and no-one else." She scored 71 70 and commented: "I played really well in the first round but annoyingly I made seven birdies, four bogeys and one double and finished one-under. There were a few mental errors that needed correcting, like club choice in the wind. I talked to my coach and my dad at lunch about what was going well and what could be improved in the wind and I played better - but I didn't hole as many putts."

Overall, though, the result was reward for a great deal of hard winter work on putting. "It was the weak part of my game and I've improved it so much over the winter and that was a massive part of the win," said Price.

Now she heads to Formby Ladies' for The Leveret - another of the top women's scratch events - and then into next week's Scottish girls' open championship. After that she's taking a break to concentrate on her GCSEs before a busy summer of golf.

Price is a member of the England Golf girls' squad and has represented both England and GB&I at U16 level. As well as winning the English U15 title in 2013, she was third in last year's English and Scottish U16 championships.

New Staff Member

A big welcome to Elsa who has joined CMGC!

As you know the legendary dog Tiger sadly passed away. Without his daily walks Graham noticed he began to pack on a bit of timber so action was needed! As with any of the golf club dogs Tiger = Tiger Woods, Mac = GMac, Daly = John Daly, Elsa followed the same theme - Ernie Els!

I'm sure you will meet her very soon, but here is a super cute picture of her.

Shop news

Under Armour Showpiece

A big thank you to Paul Bazeley of Under Armour, who with Tom gave up an afternoon to get the golf shop looking fantastic with this wall feature. A very limited number of accounts get this set up but they were very impressed with the work we have done to promote the brand and viewed it as a long term benefit to both companies by having it displayed to perfection.

Although after the launch last week we haven't got much left, as pictured we still have plenty to keep us going until May. Pop in and see for yourself.

Millward's Merch

Ok people this week's Millwards Merch is nice and simple SHOES!. We currently have 250 pairs in stock! Which means, we should have something to everyone tastes ranging from sizes 6.5 - 12.

If you are in need of shoes please pop in a see us.

As you can see then are piled high, so high there taller than me!
Great multi buy deals on various brands.

Have a great golfing week and we hope to see you at CMGC very soon.
