Hello members and friends of CMGC, it has been another busy week here at CMGC with the course continuing to improve. I even managed to get out for nine holes on Saturday and couldn't believe how good it was…. Anyone who is friends with me on Facebook may have also seen my status after I played…
'First game of golf since August! Fair play CMGC is just too good! Someone tell me where's better locally... I'll tell you where... Nowhere! Proud to be a part of team CMGC'.
To be honest that's the way we think at CMGC from staff through to members and visitors we are all proud to be a part of CMGC. One point that always comes up is the club atmosphere and how good it is the bar and clubhouse is always buzzing and seeing the patio starting to fill up in the sun really is great.
Just taken delivery of 38 tons of new bunker sand! At £40 plus VAT a ton this stuff isn't cheap and we hope will knock the bunkers back into shape. The reason why sand is not added to the bunkers in the winter is because it simply washes away… in reality it's like throwing away money that could be invested in other things. The sand will be divided around the bunkers ready for next weekend.
The course has also had a bit of rain on it over the last couple of days, and in reality that probably is not a bad thing. With the warm temperatures in the day the growth will really start to increase now, mind you the ninth of Badgers Sett doesn't look too bad already!
Cleobury Beer Festival THIS WEEKEND
The 2014 Cleobury beer and music festival kicks off this Friday and Saturday and it looks set to be the biggest festival to date. Ticket sales from the golf club and online have be the highest ever and we are expecting a brilliant atmosphere over the weekend. Tickets are £5 and this gets you a commemorative pint glass and your first pint. Music is open mic hosted by CMGC member and guitar hero Aaron Booton. Some fantastic artist are lined up to perform including Lauren Wright (who has just returned from a tour of America), One Too Many, The Wirrell Wailers and many more.
This is the biggest festival CMGC host and a great event on the community calendar! Like I said this is a project me and Tom started 5 years ago and hope to have everyone's support.
The Facebook event can be found here https://www.facebook.com/events/1491744707720260/
Tickets can be purchased from the golf club or www.cleoburybeerfestival.bigcartel.com

Message from head coach Phil Moore
Firstly I would like to thank everyone for making me so welcome in my first week at Cleobury. It has been really humbling to have a full lesson diary with many taking up the intro lesson and packages.
Over the next month I am going to be playing in competitions with members and organising various clinics. My aim is to see reduced handicaps, great scores and lessons using the correct equipment.
Every lesson I am doing over the next month will also get a FREE club MOT just to make sure everything in your bag is up to scratch ready for the season.
Happy golfing and I will see you at CMGC!
With the course in great condition and winter rules lifted Matt decided to host an Easter roll up competition. Played over Deer Park and Foxes Run scoring was very tough as this is the hardest combination at CMGC. Late starter David Griffiths recorded 36 points to take second spot. Whilst scratch team regular Paul Jones shot 39 points to reduce his handicap to seven and take second place.
The day however belonged to Richard Hamblin who shot a massive 43 points to take the honours. Richard has been working hard all winter on his game and is seeing the rewards of consistent lessons and practice.
Richard added 'It was a strange game as I blobbed the first hole! I got my head together and from the second hole onwards I was very solid, my goal is to get cut to 18 this year'.
Final standings
1st - Richard Hamblin - 43 points
2nd - Paul Jones - 39 points
3rd - David Griffiths - 36 points
As this was a golf centre competition the prizes are shop goods, the winners can pick up their goods from today.

These 4 specials are going down a treat.
Such a tough decision on which to go for.... Here is what the golf centre diet consists of
Dave - the old Roy is my favourite, the burger is nice and juicy and that secret sauce is soooo nice.
Matt - I am a traditionalist and always have the ham, egg and chips just because the ham is old style and thickly cut.
Phil - my lessons diary is nice and full so I am currently on two meals a day off the specials board.... the burger for lunch and scampi for dinner. Both keep me going!
Tom - the fairway lasagne is my choice, it ticks all the boxes.... hearty, healthy and cheesey!
Have a great golfing week and I will see you at the Beer festival! Team CMGC
