Hello once again from everyone here at CMGC! A much better week weather wise with some prolonged dry and windy days that are really helping the course. Hopefully this continues and we can leave the rain behind.
When you see pictures like this one I took on Wednesday morning it really does make you appreciate our location in beautiful Shropshire, yet so close to some of the big cities!
It has been business as usual for us all here at Cleobury, plenty to report as normal…. Enjoy.
Societies 2016
Our summer prices are live and it is great to see so many repeat bookings coming. Also a big thank you to the many members booking in days for groups they are part of.
All of our packages can be found by clicking here or alternatively click on the image.
We have come up with some cool names to associate them with… the most popular have been the Summer Sizzler and The Summer Slam for those making a full day of it.
If you are looking for venues please give us a call or email and we will be happy to assist.
More Staff Learning
On Tuesday Tom, Amy and I attended the annual spring work shop hosted by our buying group Foremost.
It was a full day with a 9am start at Kings Norton golf club hosted by the business development team of Peter Durham, Steve Bird, Charlie Hartley and Dave Murch.
It was great to see a packed room full of professionals from all around the West Midlands networking and discussing their plans for 2016 along with innovations that have worked for them in 2015.
As you would expect from Team CMGC we had plenty to say and we got to speak about the success of our weekly newsletter with it being one of the most popular to read.
What we got out of the meeting was the importance of: customer service, membership retention procedures and ideas on how we will be developing our indoor studio.
A big thank you to Foremost for putting on the day, it really is one of the best days of the year.
Putting Drill
Tom's winter short game program has really gained momentum now with 20 minutes practice minimum a day regardless of the weather. A couple of weeks ago we were talking about putts from 50 foot, now we move onto 20 foot putts. This drill can be used by all golfers of all abilities.
Again this drill was done over five days with 100 balls a day putted giving a total of 500. The idea with this drill is to get the ball past the hole, from 20 foot holing the odd one of these a round can make a huge difference to the scorecard.
As the famous saying goes 'never up never in', therefore the ball needs to get to the hole to go in! This time we have a semi circle around the back and side of the hole at 2.5 feet.
What I wanted to see from Tom was the ball past the hole but also striving for consistency, I did not want him going outside the semi circle as your then in 3 putt territory.
I recorded putts in the semi circle, putts outside of it and putts holed. Anything short, no matter how short it was counted as a miss.
Day 1 Holed - 15. Missed - 24 In - 61
Day 2 Holed - 18, missed - 32, In - 50
Day 3 Holed - 10, missed 37, in - 53
Day 4 Holed - 11, Missed 30, in - 59
Day 5 Holed - 8, Missed 28, In - 64
Results
Holed 62 out of 500
Missed 151 out of 500
In 287 out of 500
Evaluation
Tom missed the target 30% of the time. He holed 12%. I would use this as a starting point to get the missed putts down to 20%. I am now going to get him doing the same challenge but record the data on where the ball finishes. Past or short of the semi circle this will then give me some quantifiable evidence to see where his missed putts are finishing.
It is not long now until I will be opening myself up for short game lessons. I hope these little drills and reports I am showing you are encouraging you to practice your short game. I think the short game is where my coaching strengths will lie!

Millwards Merchandise
This week I am excited to do a HUGE deal on the latest golf ball from Titleist.
I have had special permission from our Midlands representative Ben Fisher to do a special one week only deal.
For £25 you can get two dozen of the new DT TruSoft.
The latest ball in the Titleist family is the softest compression golf ball they offer (even more than the Pro V1).
This means the feel you get off the club face is very soft, if you are a mid range handicapper who likes a soft feel this is the golf ball for you!
Give it a try…. For £25 you wont regret it!

Below are six key reasons why playing golf this winter will benefit you.
Natural light
Playing golf gets you outdoors for several hours at a time so maximises people's exposure to daylight which may help beat the winter blues.
Fresh air and burning calories
A University of Essex study shows that exercising outdoors boosts physical and mental health more than going to indoor gyms - and burns up to 20% more calories because your body needs extra energy to stay warm.
More energy
Wrapping up and heading outside on a crisp, cold day will make you feel alive and invigorated.
Feel-good chemicals
The combination of moderate exercise and swinging the club will get your blood pumping and trigger the release of endorphins.
Friendship
Golf nurtures friendship and social ties which can help you feel happier. Golf offers plenty of time for conversation and can come with a ready-made social life.
Positive goals
Golf can help you set small, healthy and positive targets.
