Hello once again from CMGC! Another week passes us by as we move ever closer to the season. Thankfully the sun has started coming up earlier and the days slowly drawing out. The course has been drying out and the greens have been cut as shown in the picture below. Hopefully as I write this we will miss out on the rain that is supposed to come over from the States!
Once again we have loads to report and talk about, so sit back, relax and we will see you at CMGC very soon.
A special mention if any of our readers are associated with car dealerships. CMGC member Bob Barlow is after a new 4x4. His current car got stuck in the mud by the lodges after trying take a short cut on the drive!
PS- For updates regarding the state of the course e.g. if trolleys etc are on please visit our blog www.cleoburygolfclub.tumblr.com
Dave at The Belfry.
Last week I was lucky enough to spend Monday - Friday at the world famous Belfry resort as part of my PGA training. Sadly it was not a jolly that involved playing golf and socialising but more 9 to 5 learning.
Certain aspects covered I really enjoyed, whilst others I found quite tough (extra work needed), the business, custom fitting and coaching lectures and seminars were a lot of fun, the sports science section which touched on the fundamental movement skills was something I found hard but I look forward to learning more about it and implementing it into my coaching.
I met some really interesting PGA professionals who did various lectures and also the group I got drawn into were also very interesting with a wide spectrum of people and personalities doing the training from challenge tour players, ex European tour players, American golf workers and much more.
I also used it as an opportunity to show some of the other professionals my plans for coaching and thankfully the feedback was fantastic… Watch this space to find out exactly what I have planned.
For those interested, the next batch of work I have due is…

A big thanks to Dave Robinson, Gary Jackson and Mike Abbott from the PGA for all their help and support they give myself and CMGC.
Men's Double Roll Up
Competition play was back at Cleobury after a week of cold weather with the course drying out and ready to deliver some low scores.
Golf can be a strange game as Dean Rogers found out. It was his first game of 2016 coupled with a dose of man flu yet he had one of his best rounds in years. A two over gross score of 43 points with 5 birdies was enough to see him take second place outright.
The day however belonged to Dan Giles, who like Dean shot 43 points but a superior back count on Foxes Run was enough to give himself the victory.
Dan had this to say "it was a complete contrast to last week where I struggled, this week I was very steady and hit a lot of fairways which made the approach play a lot easier".
Pictured is Dan and Dean (with flags in hand).
Sam On Tour
As you may or not know, Sam has gone back to Dubai after landing a job as Head Professional and store manager of the only golf store not attached to a golf course in the UAE. Sam was lucky enough to be invited to the PING launch of their new G launch product range before the golf tournament in Dubai started and had this to say on the clubs.
"For those that know me and my equipment I have always been a Nike man, however this has now changed. The new PING G range has blown me away, the irons offer fantastic feel, the hybrids go for miles and the driver is out of this world. I was hitting the new driver, fitted to an inch shorter than standard and I have never hit the ball so long and straight. I cannot stress enough about using the free fitting service Rob and the Stone team offer and to get on over to try it….. This range of golf clubs really is the best I have seen in years".
Rob has actually confirmed a PING Fitting Day at Stone on Thursday 11th February. If anyone would like further information on this please contact us here.
Then whilst it was cold and miserable on a Thursday morning Sam then decided to send us these pictures of him enjoying some VIP treatment behind the ropes in Dubai…. Recognise the two peoples he is with?

Below are six key reasons why playing golf this winter will benefit you.
Natural light
Playing golf gets you outdoors for several hours at a time so maximises people's exposure to daylight which may help beat the winter blues.
Fresh air and burning calories
A University of Essex study shows that exercising outdoors boosts physical and mental health more than going to indoor gyms - and burns up to 20% more calories because your body needs extra energy to stay warm.
More energy
Wrapping up and heading outside on a crisp, cold day will make you feel alive and invigorated.
Feel-good chemicals
The combination of moderate exercise and swinging the club will get your blood pumping and trigger the release of endorphins.
Friendship
Golf nurtures friendship and social ties which can help you feel happier. Golf offers plenty of time for conversation and can come with a ready-made social life.
Positive goals
Golf can help you set small, healthy and positive targets.
