Hello once again from the mighty CMGC!

Well what a week it has been with the awful weather but everyone is still here with smiles on their faces getting into the Christmas spirit. This will be our final newsletter of the year apart from a mesage that will land with you next week regarding our Boxing Day Sale. Last call on Christmas trees with the final batch cut down on Wednesday… just £20. Keep us in mind for any last minute golf related Christmas gifts…. We are always here to help as our Christmas video showed - Please click here to view.

I would like to send out a heart felt thank you to everyone associated with the club…… I really believe 2015 has been one of the stand out years since the club was founded with so many highs. The course has been outstanding, some stunning golf has been played and all the staff here at the club have been a real credit with their hard work and mostly importantly their great attitude.

The club is open as normal over the festive period apart from some slight restrictions as listed below. If you are playing golf on:

Monday 28th, Tuesday 29th or Wednesday 30th. Please call us to book a tee time as they are already very busy.

Christmas Eve - Course Open - Bar 8am - 4pm - Kitchen Closed
Christmas Day - All Departments Closed
Boxing Day - Course Open - Bar 8am - 4pm - Kitchen Closed
New Years Day - All Departments Closed

As mentioned it has been a brilliant year and below are just a few of the highlights!

April - Best April Fools Ever!

Never has an April fools joke fooled so many people here at CMGC.

We had people coming throughout the summer asking when the Par 6 was in play……. Did you really think our beloved Bradbury Oak tree was going to be cut down?

Worcestershire Pro-Am

CMGC is now home to the biggest Pro-Am in Worcestershire thanks to the generous sponsorship of CMGC member Andy Smith and his Kidderminster Self Storage business. They put up a fantastic fund for the local pros and they come out to the course in their droves.

It offers the biggest prize pot in the county and we are looking to continue the success of it going forward in 2016. Pictured is last years winner Marcus Knight.

Charity Work

CMGC has once again been a facility that has raised huge amounts of money for Charity over 2015. Starting with the massive Adam Millichip Foundation golf day which raised over £8000 and then finished with club captain Jon Gaskell and his wife Ange who raised over £11,000 from their golf day and additional charity work over the season.

Club Championships

One of the most open club championships in recent memory with a wide open field it was literally anyone's to win! Phil Lau picked up the nett finishing level with his handicap over the two days. Sean Raybould a fantastic player who joined on the taster membership back in the spring brought the title home. One of the best weekends of the year without doubt.

Cleobury Win Bob Osborn Trophy

The Cleobury Mortimer junior section won the Bob Osborn Trophy for the first time. Bob Osborn was one of the key figures when the West Midlands junior section was formed, since his passing this competition sees his memory live on.

Golf courses from around the West Midlands enter three player from their club. 18 holes of stroke play golf is then played and the best two scores out of the three give an aggregate total, the lowest score wins. Josh Rowbotham led the way for Cleobury with a gross 77 (nett 71) which put Cleobury in a great position.

Tom Rawlings then stepped up, not only did he shoot under his handicap he shot way under with an incredible nett 61! This meant Cleobury won the trophy for the first time!

Amy and Maya

A massive Well Done needs to go to Maya for firstly being nominated for Level 2 Apprentice of the Year within all of Telford College Level 2 students but also completing her apprenticeship with flying colours.

Her apprenticeship was focused on Hospitality and Catering which looked at preparing food, front of house, cooking and training other members of staff etc.

Maya was put forward for Apprentice of the Year at Telford College by Elaine (her tutor) who spoke with both Kathie and Graham and they agreed to put her forward without her knowledge.

Maya then won apprentice of the year which was fantastic news!

Amy to take on the PGA

After shooting 37 points in the Ladies Stableford on Captains Weekend winning the comp and getting her handicap cut to 5. Amy is now able to apply to do the PGA Foundation Degree which is a 3 year course but will allow her to become a fully fledged PGA Professional at the end of it.

Pictured from left is Maya, Graham and Amy.

Stuburt Models

As the UK's only brand ambassadors for Stuburt golf we were once again asked to model their new range for the upcoming  2016 season.

We are very proud of this and the exposure it gives the club with the brochures reaching a world wide audience is fantastic.

Club news

Turkey Trot

Sadly due to the weather on Saturday the Turkey Trot was cancelled however we have rescheduled it for this Saturday. We have two tumblers to give out for the winning team.

If you would like to enter the two man texas scramble please contact us on 01299 271112.

Christmas Open

A massive thank you to the 32 teams that entered the Christmas Open here at CMGC. It was once again a fantastic event despite the weather. Some brilliant scores were posted in some really testing conditions.

I must also thank the greens staff who were out there all day getting the course playable.

A full list of the winners and results can be found by clicking here.

Here are a couple of pictures of the event.

Christmas Party

What a night it was for the annual members Christmas Party…. I am sure there were some foggy heads on the Sunday! 102 people attended the event for a night of laughs and dancing. George and the team of caterers produced a stunning meal with many saying it was the best meal and night they have had at the club in over 10 years.

Ladies Turkey Trot

The ladies were in a Festive mood for their Turkey Trot, special mention should go to Lynne Pinner for her Tinstle hair and Chris Perry for the Christmas lights on her golf bag. The majority of the ladies managed to play their round with their Father Christmas hats on, it doesn't affect the back swing!

The competition, 18 hole Texas Scramble, was won by the team of Julie Currie, Juliet Dugdale and Deborah Fearnley, in second place was the two ball team of Ros Harrop and Eve Saunders

The afternoon concluded with tea and mince pies followed by a raffle in aid of the Lady Captain's Charity.

The Seniors Christmas Bash attracted over 40 players and 60 sitting down for our annual Christmas meal. In spite of the wet conditions a great 9 hole Texas scramble was enjoyed by all , the eventual winners being: Mel Kingston, Malcolm Wain, Bob Barlow and John Haywood - each receiving a bottle of wine from the Captain. The day raised a magnificent £332 towards the Captains charity, St Richards Hospice.
