Hello once again from CMGC! What a week it has been with the course drying out a treat considering the amount of rain we have had. As normal the club has been full of activity with everyone really enjoying their winter golf. As I write this the final details are going into the Christmas Open on Thursday with a huge field of 136 golfers taking part!

Don't forget this Saturday it is also our Turkey Trot, the last trophy competition of the year, we have a few spaces left, check out the current start sheet here…. Please call us on 01299 271112 if you would like to play. It is an interesting format….. a 2 man Texas Scramble!

I know I keep talking about the greens but they really are rolling so well as Sam demonstrates here.

Also I wasn't joking about the course drying out… the greenkeepers have been out hand cutting the tees amazing what some definition does!

Titleist DT TruSoft

Titleist have been nice enough to give me a couple of sleeves of their new golf  ball which are to be released on February 1st 2016. The new DT TruSoft are priced at just £16 a dozen and from what I have seen are going to really change the ball market for golfers between 12 and 28 handicap. The ball has the softest compression out of any ball on the market including the Pro V1. It offers unbelievable feel around the greens with wedges and the short stick plus it is not short off the tee thanks to its new core that delivers a low spin rate for the long game.

Watch this little video here to hear just how soft it is off the club face.

I gave club captain John Gaskell a sleeve to try on Sunday, John is normally a Srixon Z Star user and plays off a handicap of 18.

'I very rarely change golf balls, but as Dave asked me to sample a pack I felt obliged to give the DT TruSoft a go. What really surprised is the feel you get off the club face, it feels like a premium golf ball. It is also long off the tee, I estimate I am an extra 15 yards longer. I will certainly be giving them a more in depth try upon their release in February'.

Answer this question below to be in with a chance of winning a sleeve.

What is the combined age of the CMGC golf centre staff??

(Dave, Tom, Sam, Matt and Amy) - Clue: Believe it or not despite his boyish good looks Dave is actually 30!

Under Armour News

Back in October when CMGC announced we would be official Under Armour stockists demand has gone crazy. I can't remember a brand that has created such a buzz with so many members asking when it is arriving (March 1st the Spring/Summer is released). I have constantly been on the phone with Tom our Midlands representative tweaking the order with additional logo clothing ordered. Then last week Tom called me to have a sneak peak at the Autunm/winter range 2016-2017 which seems lightyears away considering we are still in the current winter.

Needless to say once we saw the range a rather large pre order went in! We will be one of the largest green grass retailers stocking UA in Worcestershire. The products offer fantastic technologies but at really competitive prices.

Pictured here are some of the highlights from the range. Dave and Tom shaking hands with UA representative Tom - the red jumper Tom is holding with be £49.99 for a lined, water resistant jumper. Bottom right is one of the colour options in the waterproof suit this suit (top and bottoms) with be £150 Bottom left the soft shell tops - £49.99 a heat compression top that you would wear over a base layer to keep you warm.

The picture of Dave with the white top - this was the stand out product for us, priced at £60 it is called the Daytona. This lightweight fleece is what all the UA stars will be wearing, it offers warmth, comfort and most importantly a fantastic fit….. Keep your eyes pealed for these!

Competition news

Mens Pairs Betterball

After a week of rain the the golfers of Cleobury were greeted to a dry but very windy day of 44 MPH winds for the pairs betterball.

Despite the tough conditions some great scores were posted with some holes playing harder than ever when into wind! Charlie Edwards and Harry King who were the last group out shot a very impressive 42 points which was enough to take third place.

Mike Wood and Jamie Fearnley also shot 42 points but a hugely impressive 23 points around the tough Deer Park gave them a very strong back count score. This meant to beat them a score of 43 or more was needed to snatch victory away from them.

Matt Fairman and Ashley Cook did just that with 45 points to see them top the leaderboard. It was a classic partners game with Matt doing the damage front nine and Ashley on the back nine.

Matt added "we both played solid today in the high winds, I have a natural low ball flight so it really suited me. When I was in trouble on a hole Ashley was there to fill the gap and I did the same when we was struggling. I must also add that the course was in super condition considering the weather"

Pictured is Matt Fairman left and Ashley Cook.

The seniors always have a great field of players for their weekly competition, and this week was no exception with some great scores being shot considering the wintery conditions that are now upon us.

John Haywood won Division 1 with a awesome 39 points while Dave Brownhill won Division 2 with 38 points.

John had this to say: "we both played some great golf out their considering the conditions. it was nice to play alongside as we both played well and shot some great scores."

Seniors captain Maurice Clarke added….

"Firstly well done to John and Dave for their performances this week. Dave Brownhill is a new recruit to the Seniors section and has put in some very good performances to date so it is no surprise to see him winning the division 2 stableford this week. John Haywood is a solid player and again it good to see him top of division 1. When we return to qualifying competitions I won't be surprised to see some handicap cuts".

Ladies 9 hole Stableford

The ladies contested in their 3rd Winter Order of Merit competition, with a generous field of ladies all playing. Wendy Duncan Secured top spot with 16 points winning on count back to Juliet Dugdale

Lady Captain Nina Foord had this to say: "There was some good scores out their today considering the wintery winds and conditions. It's nice to see so many ladies playing through the winter."
