Modernising Golf’s Rules

Last week the R&A proposed some key changes to the Rules of Golf from 2019. Their Rules Modernisation initiative has been underway for a few years now and this is the next stage in that process. The aim is to not only make the Rules easier to understand, but also to address some of the game's current problems, such as speed of play, and ensure they fit the needs of today's game.

Please spare a couple of minutes to complete our survey, which gives you the chance to have your say.

For each proposed Rules change you'll be given a chance to say whether you agree with the change (Yes) or disagree (No). At the end we invite you to leave any comments that you may have on the Rules Modernisation initiative as a whole.

3 minutes will be the maximum allotted time to search for a ball, rather than the current 5 minutes

No penalty for accidentally moving your ball while searching for it

No longer do you have to drop the ball from shoulder height, just one inch above the ground is fine

No penalty if you putt a ball on the green and it hits the flagstick in the hole

It will be OK to repair spike marks and almost all other damage on the green

Apart from if your ball is in a bunker, you can take relief anytime your ball is embedded
